“Lady Aristea, the bathwater is ready.”

Seyra opened the door and announced.

Liz reluctantly got up, wrapping the satin gown that had fallen on the floor around her.

Each time she put pressure on her stomach, a subtle ache was felt from below.

Nevertheless, she was relieved that she could get up from bed. On the first day…

‘I couldn’t even get up. On the second day, I couldn’t walk.’

Someone had said that.

As the repetitions increased, the body would adapt, and it would become easier.

‘Even if that’s true, I have to refrain today.’

Liz pledged, taking uncomfortable steps.

‘Because I can’t afford to stumble at the wedding tomorrow.’

After receiving a comprehensive briefing from the palace staff about the wedding ceremony order, rituals, and the overall information about the guests who needed special attention, Liz returned to her quarters. The warm-hearted palace staff assured her that there was nothing to worry about, emphasizing that it would be just like an ordinary wedding. It sounded different from what someone else had said.

“This is not just the wedding of noble families in the capital.”

Whose words were more accurate?

Although uncertain, it seemed that the person who was harsher towards her was probably correct. Usually, the side with flesh and bones had the upper hand in such matters.

Once again, Liz returned to her quarters, keeping in mind the things she needed to remember about the royal wedding and the guest list.

“Lady Aristea.”

Rosa was already there, waiting.

She mentioned having made some modifications to the ceremonial dress decorations, and it seemed like she came to confirm that.

“Shall we go to the dressing room?”

“No, it’s not that…”

“…?”

Rosa hesitated, not answering straightforwardly.

Liz’s eyes turned to Rosa’s hands.

“This… it’s a wedding gift.”

Rosa reached out and handed her something.

It was a tulip plant, a black tulip.

“Who gave this to me?”

Liz asked as she accepted the black tulip.

Rosa replied, “It’s from Duke Montanerre.”

“Ah…”

She had some inkling.

‘We have black tulips in our greenhouse at the Yeomyeon Mansion. I should show it to him sometime.’

She had said that in the garden that day.

“I see…”

It was perplexing, but it was fascinating aside from that.

A black flower. The existence of a black flower in this world seemed to defy the laws of nature, filling Liz with wonder.

“It’s beautiful.”

“…”

“What’s the meaning of this flower?”

Rosa hesitated again this time. Liz looked up from the tulip to her. Rosa, twisting her body as if feeling deeply apologetic, answered.

“It means a curse.”

‘No special meaning.’

She tried to think positively.

‘He sent it because I wanted to see it. Certainly.’

Liz struggled to dispel her anxiety. However, the more she tried, the stronger the feeling of self-deception became.

She couldn’t shake off the thought that he sent it knowing the meaning of the flower.

Certainly… as a warning…

“Lady Aristea.”

At Rosa’s sudden call, Liz snapped back to reality.

“Is there no need for further adjustments to the attire?”

“Attire? Ah…”

A moment later, she remembered.

‘I was in the middle of wearing a wedding dress, right?’

Liz looked at the large full-length mirror in front of her with a clear gaze.

For a moment, she felt like she was facing a different person.

“Is this… me?”

Liz squinted her eyes, looking at the woman in the mirror. If Rosa hadn’t been visible, it would have been hard to believe that the person in the mirror was her.
The upper part of the wedding dress, as white as snow, naturally clung to the body, and below the waist, layers of lace spread out like a butterfly’s wings, subtly and translucently shining. The diamond sequins adorning the chest sparkled like water scales on the surface of a lake.

Deciding not to try it on in advance turned out to be a good decision, but it was also a mistake. Something welled up in Liz’s heart at the sight of the bride’s appearance that she had only imagined in her mind.

A hazy mist came over her eyes. Rosa, who noticed the situation, quickly took out a handkerchief.

“Don’t close your eyes.”

She gently touched the end of the handkerchief to Liz’s tear ducts, absorbing the tears. Then, her vision became clear again.

“Thank you.”

Fortunately, there was no disaster with black mascara running.

Liz thought she should move before more tears came.

“Now, let’s go.”

Rosa politely nodded her head, extending her hand. Holding onto her hand, Liz descended from the platform. The two specially selected attendants from the palace held the hem of the dress and the veil, ensuring there were no stumbling blocks.

Another person handed Liz a bouquet.

“…”

Liz stared silently at the bouquet. It was a bouquet of tulips in shades of pink.

An identical child, with the same appearance but different in color, was currently sunbathing by the window in Liz’s bedroom.

‘Cursed.’

Liz shook her head slightly, trying to shake off the constant recollection of the black tulip’s meaning.

‘Ignore it. If I don’t see it, it’s just that.’

Starting today, she would move her residence to the main palace, leaving the cursed flower behind. If she didn’t see it, she wouldn’t even think about the uncomfortable warning. However,

‘Does my sister know what to do? I’m more suited to be the empress than my sister.’

She remembered Liliah’s words heard in her dream.

Liliah did not receive a black tulip. Because Liz had asked him to give her a gift before that.

“Lady Aristea?”

Rosa cautiously called Liz, who was standing still.

“Now you need to go out.”

“Yeah… that’s right.”

Liz chuckled with a confused smile and took a step. The smooth steps, which had been flowing seamlessly, were interrupted again as she faced the door of the dressing room.

“Rosa.”

“Yes, Lady Aristea.”

“I have a favor to ask you.”

“Please speak.”

“Do you remember the herbal potion Prince Calton sent? Send it to Duke Montanerre as a token of gratitude for the tulip.”

Rosa nodded as a sign of compliance. Liz felt a bit lighter.

Now, she felt she could confidently speak to Liliah when she met her in her dreams.

‘I told you, didn’t I? I can do everything you do.’
