At Yeongsoon’s firm words, this time Sooyoung’s expression changed.
“That’s not a part-time job! It’s my job! My job!”
“Quit that job!”
“Why?”
“Don’t know? Dating a visually impaired person doesn’t make sense!”
“Why doesn’t it make sense?”
“This stubbornness of yours!”
Yeongsoon fiercely slapped her daughter’s thigh. However, the daughter, without making a sound of pain, merely stroked her thigh.
“I won’t say it twice! Don’t go from tomorrow!”
“I’m really busy tomorrow! In the morning, I have to go for recording, and I have to get my writing checked…”
“Don’t do any of that!”
“Then you have to pay a penalty!”
“What?”
“That guy’s grandpa is a lawyer with a lot of influence. If you break the employment contract as you please, he’ll make you pay a penalty! It’ll wipe out all our lease funds!”
The face of the person who seemed trustworthy as the representative transformed into that of a shady scammer in Yeongsoon’s mind.
Now that she thought about it, she was being threatened with money. Calling him a disabled person. And cunningly making her daughter date him.
Suppressing the convulsion in her lips, Yeongsoon took out her phone from her bag.
Seeing her make a call, Sooyoung was startled when she saw the name on the screen.
“Mom! Why are you calling him at this hour!”
But as soon as she heard the other person pick up, Yeongsoon spoke with a trembling voice.
“I’m Sooyoung’s mom.”
Oh, Mrs. Youn! Did you settle in well today? I’m sorry for being so inexperienced that I couldn’t even properly greet you…
Cutting off Jihyun’s cheerful voice, Yeongsoon coldly said, “Starting tomorrow, our Sooyoung won’t work with you guys.”
What?
“Mom!”
“If you break the employment contract, you say there’s a penalty, this and that… manipulating an innocent girl like this, involving her with a disabled person… You people… doing this to a young girl! People who know about this…”
Suddenly overwhelmed with emotion, Yeongsoon swallowed her words and abruptly hung up the phone.
As her mom seemed to cry, Sooyoung, who was about to protest, looked at her with a bitten lower lip.
The sight of her mom sitting and turning her head to avoid showing her face was the same as the day she announced her divorce with her dad.
Being docile without any guarantees all this time, and now having a husband who couldn’t stick to one workplace, Yeongsoon couldn’t look straight at her daughter and only chewed on her lips.
Knowing the pain her mom had gone through, Sooyoung didn’t say a word to her.
Then, is it as heartbreaking as it was then? Is it as painful as when I started dating that person and broke up with dad?
Looking at her mom, Sooyoung lowered her head deeply. When her mom had that expression… there was no winning.
Jihyun, who received Yeongsoon’s call, had both hands on her forehead like praying.
Entering the room wearing a bathrobe after working overtime and coming home late, Yeonseo was surprised to see her husband like that.
“Ms. Jihyun, what’s wrong?”
“…….”
Not saying anything, Jihyun forcibly took her husband’s hand and tried to catch his gaze, asking desperately.
“Mr. Jihyun, why? Why are you like this?”
“…Mrs. Sooyoung’s mom says Sooyoung won’t work with us anymore.”
“Oh my! Why?”
“Woojin seems to be aware of the situation. He seems upset that he made a disabled person date.”
“He pays a salary, why?”
“It doesn’t seem to be important. I think both of them have a special relationship.”
When I saw him say he hired her and manipulated her, I felt that way. It was something I anticipated, but now that it’s happening, I don’t know what to do.
Right now… What should Woojin do?
“So, Sooyoung, don’t come to the young master’s house from now on? What about Woojin, the young master?”
Yeonseo said with a worried expression.
“Well… Woojin needs time to sort things out. If he quits right away…”
“Should I meet Sooyoung?”
“What would you say to her?”
“I’ll ask her to keep coming to the young master’s house.”
“Even if her mother refuses, well, she called me earlier.”
“Sooyoung is an adult. If she wants to do it herself… And, if the young master has feelings for her, wouldn’t she keep coming? And what about the audiobooks right now?”
“For the audiobooks, we can cast another voice actor, but…”
The biggest issue was how Woojin would change without Sooyoung.
If he hides even more… No, if he just hides, it would be fortunate, but if he hurts himself again…
Jihyun felt her body trembling as if she had a chill.
The next day, Sooyoung, who was planning to secretly visit Woojin’s house when her mom went to work, felt awkward when Yeonseo kept staying home.
“Mom… Aren’t you going to work today?”
Looking cautiously, her daughter’s face, who asked carefully, didn’t look at her, and Yeonseo spoke coldly.
“Mom, I decided to work from home for a while.”
“Eh? Are you watching me?”
“Yes.”
“Mom!”
“Don’t think about doing something else. Go inside and do what you have to do.”
“No, companies don’t quit like this in a day, right? You should tell the owner, write a resignation, go through the procedures…”
“It’s not a company!”
Yeongsoon couldn’t stand it and yelled.
“Just because it’s a company! Why is mom doing this! What, are you going to keep going, but if you quit right away…”
“What am I doing…”
Now she felt unfairly treated. She understood what her mom was worried about, but she hadn’t committed a mortal sin.
“Do you know what’s the scariest thing in the world? Sympathetic love, sympathetic love! Sympathetic love is when two people die together!”
“I’m not sympathizing with him!”
“Then what? Watching him becomes pitiful, wanting to help, that’s what it is. At first, it’s okay, but later, you can’t throw it away, and it turns into a nightmare!”
The advice from experience was poignant. Until now, she just listened to her mom speak negatively about her dad.
Since she thought her mom had sacrificed unilaterally.
But comparing Sooyoung to Woojin and blaming her dad, it didn’t feel good as Woojin’s girlfriend, and it didn’t feel good as her dad’s daughter.
And Dad and Woojin are different. Mom’s feelings about Dad were different from hers. That’s probably why Sooyoung, for the first time, resisted Yeongsoon’s words.
“I am different from Mom. Mr. Seol Woojin is also different from Dad.”
“What?”
“Even if Mom’s love was sympathetic, I really like Mr. Seol Woojin. I don’t sympathize, and I’m not blind. And Mr. Seol Woojin is not incompetent like Dad. Even if that person sympathizes with me, I can’t dare to sympathize with him.”
“You…!”
“If Mom is too upset, I won’t go to that house for a while. But I will continue to make audiobooks. I will keep writing. Just as Mom does her mom’s work, this is my job.”
With Sooyoung’s firm expression and words, Yeongsoon looked at her with a stunned face. Our daughter… has changed.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
