Etienne got up abruptly. Come to think of it, when she went to get firewood earlier, things got weird.

They could only find wet firewood in abundance, and there was nothing to light a fire. In the end, everyone decided to gather in the carriage, with some keeping watch outside.

First, Alex went to sit on the carriage seat, and the others gathered inside.

“We won’t be able to sleep like this.”

When Solah expressed her dissatisfaction, some sighed, but there was no alternative. Sleeping outside could be dangerous if wild boars appeared.

“If only the knights had followed us, we wouldn’t be in this situation.”

Nick added a sly remark. It was a subtle way of expressing that it was the Crown Prince’s fault without saying it directly.
However, expressing such dissatisfaction didn’t change anything.

Etienne, hunched in the corner with a tired body, was content with just that, not thinking about anything else.

‘Is traveling supposed to be this exhausting?’

Although she thought she had been on quite a few journeys, this one felt truly different. It hadn’t even been a day, and she couldn’t understand why there was so much work.

‘Well, I shouldn’t think it’s the same. We’re not traveling comfortably in a carriage, and we didn’t even bother to gather firewood.’

She had learned not to pick up wet firewood, but she didn’t seem to have diligently followed that lesson.

It had been the task of the servants. Leaning against the wall lost in various thoughts, her eyelids were half-closed, covering her pupils.

Then, it felt like she blinked and fell asleep. Etienne woke up suddenly in the darkness, wondering what her last thought was. However, her foggy mind couldn’t recall anything.

But where she was leaning felt firm yet warm. Was the carriage wall warm? She had a momentary thought, but it felt different from the wall. It was as if she was leaning on a person…

Etienne forced her heavy eyelids open. Seeing the faint light seeping into the carriage, it seemed like dawn.

As she looked at Solah, who was sleeping against someone on the opposite side, she tried to lift her head. If she had fallen asleep leaning on someone, it was time to wake up. However…
A large hand covered my eyes, and the same darkness from earlier enveloped me.

“Sleep more.”

A soothing voice that rang in my ears. Although it was a voice I had heard many times, I couldn’t immediately recall who it was.

“Come on, sleep.”

Speaking in a tone as if addressing a child, Etienne smiled. What’s this about? She should assert that she’s grown up now, but her body was succumbing to sleep once again.

Realizing belatedly who the owner of the voice was, she couldn’t call out the person’s name as she quickly drifted back to sleep.

Feeling a shaking sensation, Etienne woke up. Half-lying down, when she raised her head, the blanket beneath her head had rolled away.

‘A blanket I hadn’t seen before. Whose could it be?’

As Etienne picked it up, others came into view one by one.

Seeing Etienne’s puzzled expression, Solah kindly explained the situation.

“Early in the morning, Prince’s aide moved the carriage. Thanks to that, we’ve already descended from the mountain and will soon leave the capital.”

“Ah…”

She tried to respond, but her throat was dry, and her voice wouldn’t come out. Etienne closed her mouth, and as she rubbed her throat, a water bottle appeared in front of her.

“Drink some water.”

It was Fernand. Since when had he been by her side? Just yesterday, when they gathered in the carriage, Fernand was with Hana. More precisely, Hana occupied the seat next to him.

“Thank you…”
Her throat was dry, and words of gratitude didn’t come out easily. Etienne accepted the water bottle without saying more.

As she drank the water, her throat moistened, and the remaining drowsiness completely dissipated.

“Thank you.”

With a somewhat improved voice, Etienne expressed her gratitude, and Fernand took the water bottle, as if it were nothing.

“When we leave the capital and enter another territory, we’ll go straight to an inn. We’ve planned to have a meal and rest there, so endure a bit even if you’re tired.”

In response to his words, Etienne nodded her head. However, she suddenly felt the surroundings were quiet. Looking around the carriage, she saw that only Bazone was still asleep; everyone else was already awake.

In the carriage were the nobles from the Bajon family, without Prince Leharth. Although only a day had passed, their expressions seemed even more complex.

Nick and Solah, who had consistently expressed dissatisfaction with the journey, probably still harbored similar thoughts. However, Hana’s expression was peculiar.

Maybe it was because of the incident yesterday, but the usually smiling Hana now had a serious expression.

Moreover, Hana’s gaze was fixed on Fernand.

‘Is it because Fernand saved her?’

Hana did occasionally strike up conversations with Fernand.

‘I don’t need to concern myself with that.’

She knew that Hana had an interest in Fernand.
However, when Hana’s gaze turned to me, I couldn’t just ignore it. Etienne silently met her eyes as Hana stared at me without saying a word.

“Yesterday…”

Upon that, Hana spoke up.

“He tried to save me. I heard it from Lord Fernando.”

Upon Hana’s words, Etienne looked back at Fernand. He was tilting a water bottle in his hands, and as he felt Etienne’s gaze, he raised his head.

While his face confirmed that Hana’s words were true, there was something strange.

‘Why?’

Not knowing what was odd, Etienne continued to observe Fernand, and Hana spoke again.

“If it weren’t for you… I would have been seriously injured. Thank you, Etienne.”

Upon hearing Hana’s words, she understood. Hana had a sense of gratitude towards Fernand, and he presented it as if he had saved her at Etienne’s request. However, Fernand might not have moved with such intentions, and now Hana seemed displeased with that.

Unlike the words expressing gratitude, Etienne was sending an indirect gaze that felt like interference.

As if I had inserted myself between Fernand and Hana.

Ex-husband Wants Reconciliation

One-line summary: Chasing the wife to the crematorium (making an effort to attract someone who has become indifferent), the female lead doesn’t look back, the second male lead takes the position.

Intro:

To repay the kindness of the older generation, Su Mu crossed into a female-dominated world and became a live-in daughter-in-law of the Yan family, single-handedly saving the Yan family from fire and water.

But her husband, Yan Jiyue, the eldest son of the Yan family, treated her with sarcasm and never showed her a good face.

It wasn’t until after Su Mu’s death that this pampered and arrogant young master shed a few fake tears and pretended to want to die for love.

This life’s kindness was enough. If there was a next life, she would definitely kick Yan Jiyue away.

Who knew that the heavens would be so kind as to allow her to be reborn, returning to the time when she had just married into the Yan family.

Su Mu glanced at the Yan eldest son, who still spoke coldly to her, and threw a divorce letter in front of him.

“Let’s divorce!”

***

Yan Jiyue never imagined that he would be reborn. He happily went to find Su Mu, wanting to make up for the mistakes he had made in his ignorant youth.

Wasn’t the reason the heavens allowed him to be reborn to let him reconcile with Su Mu?

But when he pushed open the door to Su Mu’s room, the person lying on the bed was another man.

Su Mu’s personal attendant, Xie Yi.

Yan Jiyue hated him so much that his teeth itched. In front of Su Mu, Xie Yi was a gentle and considerate whisperer of sweet nothings, but in reality, he was vicious-hearted and deliberately sabotaged their husband and wife relationship.

In the previous life, it was he who secretly hid in Su Mu’s coffin and committed suicide, stealing a step ahead of him to be buried with Su Mu.

Yan Jiyue’s eyes were filled with hatred as he cursed, “What kind of thing are you? Your background is lowly, what right do you have to occupy Su Mu?”

Xie Yi looked at the sleeping Su Mu and no longer pretended to be a whisperer of sweet nothings.

He proudly stuck out his belly, “I have the right because my belly is capable of giving the Wife-master a daughter.”

***

Yan Jiyue was consumed with jealousy. He spread rumors that Xie Yi had once been branded with the mark of a “harlot” on his chest.

But on the night Xie Yi cut off the flesh bearing that mark, Su Mu suddenly realized something was amiss.

“How did you know the exact moment I was poisoned? And why did you show up a month early?”

Xie Yi remained silent, blood from his wound soaking through his robes. His sapphire eyes brimmed with anguish – or was it just a flawless act?

Between a once-arrogant husband now seeking redemption, and a gentle soul willing to die for her – who truly held the darkest secrets? And could it be that Su Mu and Yan Jiyue weren’t the only ones given a second chance at life…?
