Duchess Schupraher was worried about Fernando, who had been by the lake for several days. She could hardly bear how much she wanted to go get him herself after hearing the guard knight’s report that he wasn’t eating or sleeping.

“No matter how long you stay like that, you’ll only collapse yourself.”

A chiding voice, laced with concern, rang out toward the duchess pacing in front of the door. It was Duke Schupraher coming down the stairs.

“They say you’re not eating either, just because Fernando isn’t.”

“I have no appetite from worrying.”

“Seems you haven’t even considered who’d worry if you were the one to collapse.”

Even as Duke Schupraher clicked his tongue, the duchess couldn’t bring herself to say she’d eat. She merely turned her gaze toward the lake.

Her face remained filled with worry for Fernando.

“He’s big but still childlike—my heart aches for him.”

“He’s had his coming-of-age ceremony; he’s no child anymore.”

Though the duke insisted she needn’t worry anymore, the duchess’s concern refused to subside.

“Will you stay there much longer?”

“Just a bit more… Just a little while longer…”

Afraid of disturbing Fernando, the duchess had been pacing outside the lake without daring to approach—until suddenly, her expression changed.

She hurried outside. The reason for her sudden movement was obvious. Duke Schupraher merely turned his head to look outside.
