Lips were strange. They were the part you watched most when someone spoke. When harsh words came out, crooked lips could look unbearably ugly, yet they appeared perfectly fine when smiling. Something you’d seen so often during speech or smiles now felt completely different the moment it touched you.

With her lips pressed softly against his warm, supple ones, Etienne tilted her head.

Rather than comforting Reinhart with words, she gently enveloped his lips. Their mouths slid against each other, overlapping and sharing their heat.

Before she knew it, her head tilted back further. As she shared a passionate kiss with Reinhart, Etienne thought she’d never forget this moment for the rest of her life.

Their lips slowly parted, and Etienne gasped for the breath she’d been holding. Reinhart’s lips looked slightly swollen, flushed red. Hers must be the same.

“I want to taste just a bit more.”

His red lips parted, and a tongue even deeper red than his lips slipped out to lick them. Watching that fleeting stroke vanish, Etienne squeezed her eyes shut and firmly pressed her lips against his once more before pulling away.

It was practically a clumsy collision. When Etienne lifted her head to look at him, Reinhart, who’d worn a dazed expression, soon broke into a smile.

“My lover’s affection is awfully simple.”

“It’s also a bit rough and impulsive.”

Etienne nodded, as if fully aware herself, and gently touched her own lips. Sure enough, they were swollen too.

“Does this mean you’ve changed your mind a little about this place?”

She’d spoken awkwardly just to break the strange silence—but received no reply. Etienne glanced up cautiously to read his expression and realized Reinhart’s gaze had drifted somewhere else entirely.

“My problem’s better now, but something else is an issue. I didn’t think this through.”

Reinhart muttered, looking down at Etienne’s skirt. Earlier, it had been slightly lifted and thus fine, but now the hem dragged across the ground and was dirty.
