Hana’s mind, as she received congratulations, was filled only with thoughts of Fernando, who had yet to appear. She couldn’t properly enjoy the ball, preoccupied with wondering when he would arrive and what greeting she should offer him.

‘It would’ve been better if he’d come to the ball as my partner.’

She deeply regretted that this hadn’t happened. Despite visiting him repeatedly until yesterday, their relationship hadn’t grown any closer. She had thought his absence from Etienne’s side was an opportunity, but all she’d encountered was the wall Fernando had firmly erected.

‘Even so, I won’t give up on you easily, Fernando.’

She had accidentally overheard him speaking to Etienne in the dressing room. When he offered his hand and invited her to the ball while sharing rumors about Prince Ludvi, Etienne had refused.

Knowing this, Hana had deliberately confessed to him in the dressing room and used that as an excuse to keep visiting him.

She had even enlisted her parents, doing anything to become entangled with him. Although she’d attended this ball alone, she was already watching for the next opportunity.

Even as guests praised her, calling her “the flower of the ball” or “beautiful,” Hana merely offered polite replies and kept her eyes fixed on the door.

‘Please don’t come in together with Etienne.’

She hoped Etienne wouldn’t change her mind and arrive holding Fernando’s hand.

“To ruin one’s only coming-of-age ball like this…”

Someone muttered discontentedly as they approached Hana. It was Rose, who, like her, was making her debut this evening. Hana, having recognized her interlocutor, was about to turn back toward the door when Rose spoke again.

“Aren’t you bothered at all?”

“Bothered by what?”

Hana replied casually as she sipped her champagne.
