Etienne, frustrated and pacing around the room, suddenly looked at the box she was holding. She had taken it from Ludvi, but she still had no idea why he had given it to her.

Still, she couldn’t just keep staring at the box forever, so Etienne finally opened it.

Inside, she realized she had received a jewelry case. A dazzling gem nestled in velvet cushion sparkled brilliantly.

“Did Count Pigmen really have a collection like this?”

At first glance, it was just an ordinary piece of jewelry—gorgeous and beautiful, yet giving no sense that anything extraordinary might happen. Merely a simple pair of earrings.

“Miss, Lord Fernando has arrived.”

The butler’s voice came just as the door opened. Etienne, who had just picked up one earring to examine it, turned her head—and in the very moment she recognized Fernando’s face, he pulled her into an embrace.

Etienne dropped the jewelry case and the earring, bumping into him as she was drawn close. At the dull thud of the case hitting the floor, she lifted her gaze toward Fernando.

“Fernando?”

“I was worried.”

In that brief sentence from Fernando lay all the hardship he’d endured.
