Unrequited Love is Over, Fend for Yourselves (5 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 31
“Do something about it.”
“What am I supposed to do?”
“You’re always practicing with your sword or whatever.”
Hana’s irritated remark made Bazon quickly dodge to the side.
“It’s for my health, okay? And how’s a sixteen-year-old supposed to hunt that wild boar? It’s bigger than both of us combined.”
“Bigger? Nonsense!”
Hana, who had been hiding behind a tree, hastily fled to another. The boar charged and rammed its head straight into the tree.
The tree shook violently and toppled backward with a loud crash. Bazon, unable to tear his eyes from the sight, muttered,
“You expect me to fight that thing now?”
“What else are we supposed to do? Keep dodging like this forever?”
“We should wait for someone to rescue us. Besides, I already gave you a good plan.”
Hana snorted as roughly as the boar itself. A plan? Was he seriously suggesting they just stay apart so it wouldn’t gore them easily?
Frustrated by Bazon’s refusal to protect her or even take down a mere boar, Hana opened her mouth to yell—but snapped it shut upon seeing the beast.
At least it wasn’t charging at them with lethal intent. The way it stomped its hooves leisurely suggested it knew they were easy prey.
Though her pride stung at being toyed with by a beast, for now she could only hope it continued to take its time.
However, the boar—clearly heated up after slamming into the tree—snorted loudly and scanned Hana and Bazon, as if deciding whom to attack first.
Hana pointed at Bazon, signaling it should go for him first. Unfortunately, the boar turned toward her instead, clearly having chosen her as its next meal.
“No… Don’t…”
Hana stepped backward, staring at the boar with fearful eyes. Until now, she’d dodged behind trees and rocks like Bazon, but her legs refused to move any further.
“Don’t… come closer.”
She waved her hands desperately, but the boar began charging straight at her. Seeing it close in rapidly, Hana froze completely.
“Get out of the way! Hey!”
Bazon shouted in desperation, but Hana, paralyzed by fear, could only stare mutely at the beast.
Just before the boar could gore her, Hana’s body suddenly lifted into the air.
The impact felt strangely mild for a collision with a wild boar. She hit the ground and tumbled several times, still too stunned to even open her eyes.
“Hana.”
At the low, steady voice calling her name, Hana slowly opened her eyes.
“Fernando.”
Recognizing who was looking at her, Hana choked out his name, her voice trembling.
“Step aside for now.”
Fernando, clearly pressed for time, helped her up. He pushed her behind a rock, and Hana stumbled helplessly in that direction. Then it dawned on her—
she hadn’t been struck by the boar at all, but had been carried out of harm’s way by Fernando. While Hana steadied her racing heart, Fernando drew his sword and fixed his gaze on the beast. He spoke to Hana and Bazon without turning.
“You two—watch for an opening and head back to the others.”
The boar seemed to sense Fernando wasn’t an easy target and hesitated. Bazon quickly asked,
“What about you, Fernando?”
“Don’t worry about me. Just go.”
“But…”
Hana faltered, her voice trailing off. Fernando swiftly cut in,
“You’ll only get in my way if you stay.”
Gripping his sword with both hands, Fernando locked eyes with the boar—then charged first.
“Fernando!”
“Hana, now’s our chance! Let’s go!”
Bazon grabbed Hana’s wrist as she called out to Fernando and pulled her away. Hana allowed herself to be dragged along, yet couldn’t tear her eyes from Fernando.
“But what about Fernando?”
“Did you forget? He’s the heir to House Schupraher. His abilities are nothing like ours.”
Bazon tugged Hana again as he spoke.
“Let’s go wait somewhere safe.”
Hana wanted to stay and watch over Fernando, but Bazon’s grip left her no choice but to move forward.
[This is the timeline separator]‘Fernando said… he’d come save me.’

That’s what he’d said—he hated seeing her hurt or worried, so he’d go.
Etienne hugged her own arm. She felt pathetic for constantly comparing this situation to her past life, yet couldn’t silence the thoughts spiraling outward.
“Back then, it was about my family’s fate—I couldn’t have changed anything alone.”
Thus, she told herself this time was different. But her heart disagreed.
‘Even so… you could’ve come see me.’
If only he’d secretly visited me in prison… Just that small risk—would it have been so hard? The thought washed over her with bitter disappointment.
Etienne shook her head.
“It’s already over. Why am I acting like this now?”
She lightly tapped her own head.
“I must look pretty pathetic.”
Just then, Reinhart approached and added gently,
“Your Highness.”
“If you’re worried about Fernando, don’t be. Alex has gone after him.”
“Is he skilled with the sword?”
“Would I keep him by my side otherwise?”
“He must be remarkable, then.”
Etienne praised Alex in a tone utterly devoid of enthusiasm. Right now, she couldn’t care less how talented he was.
“I understand you hope Fernando returns safely—but don’t torment yourself like this.”
Confused, Etienne looked at Reinhart—then suddenly realized what she’d just been doing.
Her nails were chewed to shreds. She’d never done that, not even as a child. The butler would surely scold her if he saw.
“It’s not like that.”
Etienne hid her hands behind her back as she spoke. Of course she wanted Fernando to be safe—but she’d been biting her nails not out of worry for him, but because her past life kept haunting her.
“Isn’t it exactly like that?”
“Well… of course I’m worried. But I’m just… a little unsettled… Huh?”
As Etienne hesitated mid-sentence, someone appeared in the distance.
It was Hana and Bazon. Seeing their disheveled state, the others who’d been waiting rushed over to check on them.
Watching them ask what happened and whether they were all right, Etienne searched for someone. Fernando had clearly gone to rescue Hana—so why couldn’t she see him anywhere?
Etienne approached Hana and asked,
“Where’s Fernando?”
Until now, both Hana and Bazon had answered promptly—but now, as if by prior agreement, they fell silent.
“He said he’d go save you—didn’t you see him?”
Worried they might have missed each other, Etienne asked again. Bazon shook his head.
“We did meet him, but he told us to go on ahead…”
“Wah…”
Hana burst into tears. Because of her, Fernando had gone off alone to save those screaming people. Was he lying injured somewhere right now?
Just as Etienne took a determined step forward—
“Etienne.”
Before she could even identify whose large hand had grabbed her arm, a voice sounded above her. Looking up, she saw Reinhart frowning in clear discomfort.
“Where are you going?”
“I have to go find him.”
Why ask such an obvious question? Etienne grasped his hand with her other one, trying to pull free.
“How about you wait instead? Fernando isn’t alone right now.”
“Even if Counselor Alex went… I still have to go.”
Someone going after him didn’t make everything fine.
“It’s my fault he went… So I have to go.”
Etienne pried Reinhart’s fingers loose. His fingertips twitched. Seeing he was about to grab her again, she quickly pulled her hand back.
Reinhart tried to stop her, but Etienne’s mind was already made up. She’d overheard the gist of what happened earlier.
“A wild boar… What if he’s been trampled and can’t get up?”
“So what? You’ll carry him back yourself?”
“There’s nothing I can’t do. I pulled him out of water before—why couldn’t I carry him down a mountain?”

No matter what, she’d bring Fernando back. A wild boar—any adult knight could handle one alone, but Fernando was still just a boy.
However hard he’d trained, he was still a youth not yet fully grown—and she’d take responsibility for bringing him home safely.
“I’ll be back.”
Etienne smiled at Reinhart—clearly telling him not to hold her back.
Just as she was about to step onto the mountain path, footsteps sounded.
A boy was coming down from above. His clothes were filthy from rolling on the ground, but he wasn’t limping.
“Fernando?”
Etienne started to run toward him—but stopped short upon seeing who’d reached him first.
Hana had already rushed ahead and wrapped her arms around Fernando’s, closely inspecting his condition.
“Are you all right? Are you hurt?”
As she plucked a leaf from his shoulder, her voice brimmed with concern.
Fernando, who’d been walking listlessly, shook his head. Did that mean he was in pain?
Etienne watched his reaction closely—unaware of another’s gaze fixed upon her.
“I’m fine, so…”
Fernando gave Hana a half-hearted reply—then spotted Etienne and fell silent. Immediately, as if to deny his earlier exhaustion, he strode firmly toward her.
“Etienne.”
“Uh…”
Etienne, who moments ago had been ready to rescue him, now answered awkwardly.
It was because Hana clinging to Fernando had burned itself into her mind. She was relieved he was safe—but why did she keep getting tangled in memories of her past life?
In that instant, warmth brushed Etienne’s cheek. Slowly, she raised her eyes.
“You don’t need to worry anymore.”
Fernando’s bright smile sent a deep tremor through Etienne’s heart.
‘Don’t worry anymore.’
Alone in that cold prison, Etienne had always longed for someone’s warmth—not for rescue,
but just for someone to hold her hand warmly once, or speak a single kind word…
Now, Etienne felt as if she were twenty-one again instead of sixteen—and still trapped in that prison.
When yandere male lead believes she loves him — but she never did
“How dare you!”
“How dare you make me love you, only to cast me aside as nothing more than a friend?!?
“I will never accept that.”
“I will never let you return to him.”
“Even if I have to burn myself to ashes.”
“Even if I must shatter my purity, my dignity, my very soul.”
“I will never let you escape me!”

This was the first novel that introduced me to the matriarchal genre. I’ve read it three times already!
At first, the male lead despised the female lead. Later, he misunderstood that she liked him, so he condescendingly and reluctantly reciprocated her feelings.
Then, he suddenly discovered that she was kind to everyone in the same way, and there was already someone she cherished in her heart, and that person was not him.
The male lead couldn’t believe it, he became angry and crazy. He was determined to capture her body and heart by any means necessary.
