“Ms. Ah Rin.”

“Yes. Go ahead.”

“This might sound strange, but…”

“It’s fine. Please go ahead.”

Ah Rin spoke, looking at Eun Ah, who hesitated.

“Will you be my friend?”

“Huh? A friend?”

Surprised, Ah Rin stared back at Eun Ah and repeated the question. Eun Ah spoke while gently tracing her coffee cup.

“The truth is, I haven’t lived in Korea for a long time, so I don’t really know anyone here. When I come to Korea occasionally, it’d be nice if you could have coffee with me like this, or grab a meal together when you have time.”

By now, Eun Ah had erased the sadness from her eyes and looked straight at Ah Rin.

“If the age gap makes it awkward to be friends, it’s perfectly okay to say no.”

“It’s not that at all. Not even a little.”

Ah Rin vigorously waved her hands and shook her head.

“I’d be honored! But… I don’t even know your name.”

“Oh, right. I’m Heo Eun Ah.”
