Thump thump. Her heart pounded so fast and hard it felt like it might burst out of her chest.

The towering wave of tension and fear she’d desperately held back crashed over Ah Rin the moment she stepped out the door.

She couldn’t even catch her breath, and her body felt so foreign it was hard to move.

Ah Rin hurried toward the elevator.

‘I don’t have time to stand around like this. I need to get out quickly.’

Worried Madam Jeong might chase after her, Ah Rin clenched her teeth and forced her trembling legs to move.

Ding.

Conveniently, the arriving elevator was already fairly full of people.

‘It’s okay now.’

Madam Jeong was someone obsessively conscious of others’ opinions and gazes. If no one had been around, who knew—but in such a crowded place, unless Madam Jeong walked in herself as she had just done, there was no chance they’d end up in the same space again.

Her stiffened body seemed to slowly relax.

Only after repeatedly telling herself several times that she was safe did Ah Rin finally manage to breathe again.

‘Didn’t you decide to become stronger? Didn’t you promise to show everyone you’re not the same Choi Ah Rin as before?’

Truthfully, she couldn’t even remember exactly what she’d said to Madam Jeong. All she’d cared about was desperately finding a weak spot in Madam Jeong’s defenses—driven by the desperate wish not to be treated like a fool again, not to relive that past where she’d let herself be trampled underfoot.
