“Why are you here?”
Yoo Hyun opened his eyes, yet stared at Arin as if he hadn’t.
“Oppa, are you in pain?”
In response to Arin’s question, Yoo Hyun abruptly stood up.
“How did you come here?”
“I was worried about you.”
Arin looked at Yoo Hyun with concern. As he quietly gazed at her face, he sighed deeply and wiped his face.
“Ha. Go upstairs.”
“Oppa.”
“I need to wash up a bit. Go up first.”
Yoo Hyun roughly ruffled his hair. He moved to pass Arin.
“Oppa.”
Arin grabbed Yoo Hyun. Having this kind of conversation with him was the first time since she mentioned meeting Jaehyuk again.
“Talk to me.”
“There’s nothing to say.”
Yoo Hyun was caught by Arin, but he didn’t turn to look at her. No, he couldn’t bring himself to look at her.
“I’m sorry.”
Arin felt a pang in her heart at Yoo Hyun’s wounded face.
‘Even if it hurts right now, even if the method isn’t the best, it’s right to comfort Yoo Hyun’s heart… Did I not consider Oppa too much?’
“I’m sorry.”
Apologizing was, in a way, a way to make herself feel better. Even so, Arin couldn’t think of any ‘other words’ she could say to Yoo Hyun.
“That’s it. From one to ten, I’m sorry for everything, Oppa.”
“Choi Arin, you…”
Yoo Hyun turned around and stood in front of Arin. He looked down at her.
“Is that all you want to say to me?”
“……”
“Why apologize for something you’re not sorry for.”
“……”
“Well, fine. Let’s assume all of that. Why that man again?”
Yoo Hyun’s eyes turned red. Arin was overcome with emotions swirling in his dark pupils.
It was a profound love directed toward her.
At first, she thought it was a light feeling. However, Yoo Hyun’s love was much deeper than she thought.
Just like at that time when she couldn’t let go of her feelings, no matter what Jaehyuk did, Yoo Hyun admitted that he loved her.
But there was no affection left for Yoo Hyun. So if she couldn’t give her heart to him, she shouldn’t torment the other person with unnecessary hope.
With such thoughts, she pushed Yoo Hyun away.
‘What if Jaehyuk Oppa loves another woman?’
If Arin said she couldn’t forget Jaehyuk, she knew Yoo Hyun would be hurt. It was a denial that, in order for him to give up on her, seemed extreme.
It wasn’t an excuse or confidence. She couldn’t think of ‘other words’ she could say to Yoo Hyun.
“Everything from one to ten, I’m sorry, Oppa.”
“Oppa.”
Yoo Hyun grabbed Arin’s shoulders and shook her gently. Her eyes met his hand. He was trembling.
“Even if everyone else becomes someone else, how much did that man hurt you, to go back? How much did you suffer, going back to that man! Have you forgotten everything? Have you forgotten how much that man hurt you!”
“…But still, there’s only Jaehyuk Oppa for me.”
“Ha.”
Yoo Hyun let go of Arin’s shoulders and splashed his face with water.
“You’re really mean, you know that?”
Between his slender fingers, his eyes gleamed sharply.
“I know that you turned away from me to close your heart. But, Choi Arin, you underestimated my feelings. If you’re going to close your heart with that or this, then I never loved you from the beginning.”
“Oppa, please don’t. Oppa, just be hurt. I can’t accept your heart.”
After comforting Yoo Hyun’s heart, Arin, for the first time, directly opened her heart to him.
“No matter how much time passes, I can’t accept your heart, Oppa.”
“How can you be so sure about that?”
“Oppa!”
“You never know when people’s hearts will change. Right now, even if you’re like this, tomorrow your feelings could change!”
Just imagining Arin standing by that man filled Yoo Hyun’s heart with anger. He couldn’t think straight.
“I will never give up on you.”
“Don’t do this, Oppa. Let’s not be like this.”
“If you’re thinking about giving up on me, forget it. Don’t force your feelings on me.”
Arin was distressed. She hoped Yoo Hyun wouldn’t be hurt.
It wasn’t because he was a close friend’s older brother.
It was because Yoo Hyun was a good person at heart.
Without Yoo Hyun in her life over the years, the present Choi Arin wouldn’t exist.
To her, Yoo Hyun was someone to be grateful for, a benefactor, and family.
So, even though she knew Yoo Hyun was selfish, she had to make him give up.
“Oppa, I hope you won’t be hurt.”
“…”
“Oppa is like family to me.”
“A husband is also family.”
“Oppa, you know that’s not true.”
“Oppa. You know it’s not like that.”
Arin’s heart ached at Yoo Hyun’s reddened eyes.
“I know it’s a selfish feeling. But if possible, I want to get along comfortably with you, Oppa. Of course, I can’t say that I want it…….'”
“Choi Arin.”
Yoo Hyun turned his gaze away. Sustaining their current relationship meant he had ulterior motives for Arin.
He hadn’t been by her side with pure intentions. He pretended to be a good older brother to win her heart, suppressing impure and boiling desires.
“I have no intention of seeing you unless you’re Choi Arin the girl.”
“Oppa, please…”
If Arin rejected Yoo Hyun’s feelings, she thought she should follow his feelings.
“My heart is mine. So, Arin, don’t interfere with my feelings.”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
