Trapped in the Mad Duke's Snare (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 46
Adeline let out a sigh as she gazed at Duke Torpeo’s castle, its grand scale visible even from afar.
From behind her, the duke, his face buried against her back, let out a faint breath—apparently, he had already fallen asleep.
He certainly had reason to be exhausted.
Early that morning, as Adeline descended into the village, she had discovered the mountain collapsed inward.
Given how powerful the landslide had been—strong enough to bring down the cave’s entrance—she had expected severe damage.
Yet, the debris sweeping down the mountain had engulfed even the outer villages of Torpeo territory.
Passing through the village, now reduced to ruins, and heading toward the inner settlements of the domain, Adeline’s thoughts grew heavy.
‘He went looking for me during all this chaos.’
She pictured Cassis before her eyes—searching for her through the torrential downpour that had drenched the Empire last night, the likes of which hadn’t been seen in decades.
He must have scoured every inch of that mountain, utterly unaware of his own illness.
Adeline’s heart grew heavier at the feverish warmth radiating from him against her back.
Despite having taken medicine, his whole body still burned—it seemed Cassis would suffer a terrible fever for some time.
The horse carrying the two of them slowly approached the duke’s castle.
The castle’s iron gates, closed until now, swung open, and the horse Adeline rode came to a gentle halt.
The butler and the head maid rushed toward them in a panic.

Cheng Songer transmigrated into the body of a vicious cannon fodder female supporting character with the same name as her in a female-dominant novel.
In the original story, the cannon fodder female supporting character was inhumane, committing domestic violence, gambling excessively, being lustful, and even wanting to sell her stepbrother to a brothel for money.
As luck would have it, she just happened to transmigrate at this time.
Seeing Cheng Qingzhi biting his lip, enduring the tears in his eyes, looking pitiful, her heart softened.
She stuffed the money back into the Madam’s hand and reached out to him.
“Brother, come home with me.”

It seems neither one understands love. I guess that is why they are both so tormented and confused. I wish we knew more of the Duke’s background.

Hahaha, the fastest marriage in the world! What is this? As if he didn’t see her a moment ago!
You filthy crown prince, we’ll see who laughs last when you see who married the one you were laughing at, you filthy bastard. May you rot in hell.
Honestly, Adeline is completely consumed by fear; she never tries to think of a solution and just wants to escape.
