“Lady, your health seems quite deteriorated. Despite severe morning sickness, you must eat to replenish your strength.”
“But I can’t stomach food. Lately, even the slightest noise keeps me awake.”
As Adeline grew thinner day by day, the Duke summoned a doctor for her.
Though probably more concerned about the child she might be carrying.
Adeline felt relieved meeting the doctor, like visiting a psychiatrist.
“Your stress is severe. Resting in a natural environment could benefit you. How about taking a therapeutic trip?”
“Even if I wanted to go, would he let me?”
“Wouldn’t he? You are not alone, after all.”
After the doctor left, Adeline, on the terrace, pondered deeply.
Following repeated consultations, she had to accept the reality of her pregnancy.
The doctor said the faint pregnancy pulse initially felt had become noticeably clearer.
Unless he was a quack, there was no denying it anymore.
‘Is it really happening to me?’
Adeline stroked her belly, still not showing despite being in the early stages of pregnancy.
She looked down at her arms. She had indeed been getting thinner since staying at the Duke’s castle.
‘This can’t go on.’
Feeling it could be dangerous to continue this way, Adeline made a decision.
If she was indeed pregnant, she had to protect the child.
And to do that, she needed to escape the Duke’s suffocating presence.
Adeline stood up resolutely.
“Lady, where are you going?”
Becky, who was with her, approached in surprise. Adeline asked her.
“Where is the Duke now?”
“His Excellency should be in his office now. Lady?”
Becky watched Adeline leave the bedroom with a puzzled look.
It was the first time she had taken the initiative to seek out the Duke.
Adeline hesitated, her hand on the doorknob to the office.
Having come to seek him out, she now lacked the courage to enter.
She had been avoiding Cassius, whom she did not want to confront.
But she couldn’t continue living like this. It was one thing when she was alone, but if she was truly pregnant, it would be hard on the child.
Adeline took a deep breath outside the office and knocked.
A short knock later, a voice from inside beckoned her to enter.
Quietly, she stepped into the office, spotting the Duke seated at his desk.
He was indifferent to Adeline, preoccupied with signing documents.
‘I must have come at a busy time.’
She regretted not sending a maid to inquire first. Entering now, she felt a bit remorseful.
Adeline decided to wait quietly, standing by the door and surveying the surroundings.
Warm afternoon sunlight streamed in through the large windows, creating diagonal rays across the room.
The Torpheo estate in the south enjoyed warm weather all year round, even long past the start of autumn.
“What brings you here?”
Adeline raised her head at the sound of the Duke closing a file.
“You’ve come all the way here.”
Cassius was now looking at her, wearing thin-framed glasses.
He usually wore glasses when working. The normally sharp crimson eyes seemed a bit gentler behind the lenses.
“Why don’t you sit down? I’ll have some tea prepared.”
He gestured towards the sofa in the center of the office and was about to pull the bell cord when,
“No, thank you. It’s not something to discuss while sitting.”
He leaned back in his chair, looking at Adeline as if to say, “Go ahead, speak.”
Adeline clasped her hands tightly and slowly opened her lips.
“I want to go on a retreat. I heard there’s a villa within the Duke’s domain.”
Of course, even within the domain, the villa was at the very edge of the vast Torpheo estate.
The lakeside villa, surrounded by mountains, was said to offer breathtaking views with each season’s change.
Adeline recalled the housekeeper mentioning it was built by the previous Duke for a young Cassius.
Perhaps there, she could escape the many watchful eyes and even Cassius’s oppressive presence.
The thought alone felt like a breath of fresh air.
“Please, allow me just a week.”
She didn’t expect easy permission.
If Cassius refused, she planned to plead for the sake of the child in her womb.
She waited for his response, only to see him, arms crossed, lips slowly parting.
“Granted, take as long as you need. I’ll inform Gwen.”
With that, he turned his gaze back to his documents.
Adeline’s eyes widened in surprise.
The permission came too easily, unexpectedly so.
My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.
The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
