Despite it being late at night when she would usually be asleep, Adeline couldn’t find rest. The unease she had tried to suppress was slowly rising as time passed.

Throughout the night, the Duke never returned to her side. Adeline waited endlessly for him, curled up in one corner of the bed, just embracing her trembling body with anxiety. There was nothing else she could do but wait.

Dawn arrived after the long night. The sunlight seeping through the window touched Adeline’s eyes. Startled from a light sleep, she woke up with a jolt.

‘Mel?’

The bedroom was empty. Adeline was still alone in the mansion.

She couldn’t just wait indefinitely for the Duke to return.

Unable to contain the slowly rising anxiety, she needed to find out what had happened.

‘Could his memory have returned?’

Adeline quickly headed towards the town center.

If the Duke had regained his memory and returned, she hoped it might have been featured prominently in the newspapers.

Reaching the center of town, Adeline approached a boy selling newspapers.

“Do you have today’s newspaper?”

“Of course! Which newspaper would you like?”

“All of them, please.”

After receiving the newspapers from the boy and handing him a silver coin, she fervently began reading through all the articles from different publishers. Contrary to her expectations, there was no mention of the Duke anywhere.

Adeline, unable to comprehend the situation, sat down dejectedly by a fountain.

‘What on earth is happening?’

She began wandering around the town.

She had no expectation of finding the suddenly vanished Duke, but it was like clutching at straws.

Perhaps due to the mental strain, Adeline’s physical strength rapidly declined.

The world, so eerily quiet, felt like the calm before a storm.

‘Even if the Duke had returned, news wouldn’t reach this remote village so quickly.’

She could only hope that he hadn’t deliberately hidden himself.

With that thought, Adeline hurried back to the mansion, hoping that the Duke might have returned in her absence.

However, as she entered the mansion and felt the chill in the air, her face fell.

‘Have you really… gone back, haven’t you?’

If he were still Mel, he wouldn’t have left Adeline waiting without a word.

The man she had lived with, who was more tender than anyone and always concerned for Adeline’s well-being, wouldn’t have left her alone in this mansion.

Clutching her fists, Adeline thought that if nothing had happened to the Duke, he must have returned by his own will.

With a heavy heart, she walked into the mansion.

‘Please be there…’

Nervously heading to the bedroom, she rushed to the bed.

Reaching deep beneath the bed, her fingers touched something, and her expression relaxed.

‘It’s still here!’

The box she retrieved contained a seal. The seal of the House of Torphey.

The seal, representing the head of the house, was not easily replaceable.

If the Duke had regained his memory and returned to his duchy, he would have immediately noticed the absence of this seal and would have surely tried to reclaim it.

‘Thank goodness. At least with this…’

Holding the seal’s box close, Adeline thought she might use it to negotiate something or at least make a deal in return for saving the Duke’s life.

She planned to flee to Haillar or seek refuge in the Lands of the Count of Levbrans.

Perhaps hiding in the Lands of Levbrans would be safe for the time being.
Adeline was also evading the Crown Prince who had been searching for her, and the Duke who had been completely deceived by her.

Just as she was about to get up,

Clunk, clunk!

The sound of an old door’s hinges clunking echoed from somewhere.

‘Mel?’

Could it be him returning? Yes, something might have happened that prevented him from contacting her.

Only then did a faint color return to Adeline’s pale face.

‘I’ll have to give him a piece of my mind. Make sure he doesn’t leave without saying a word in the future.’

As she hurried towards the bedroom and touched the doorknob,

Clop-clop, the sound of unfamiliar footsteps resounded on the wooden stairs.

The heavy weight of the person climbing made the stairs creak ominously.

Adeline couldn’t move. Her feet felt like they were laden with dozens of lead weights.

Because the approaching person was not the Duke.

In the suffocating tension, Adeline’s face turned deathly pale.

The Duke had ridden a horse for three days and nights nonstop to finally reach the Duchy of Torphey.

In his haste, Cassis had forsaken a carriage and rode the horse himself.

He walked through the castle, scanning the surroundings.

The castle, which he hadn’t seen for a couple of months, was eerily unchanged since his departure.

He walked through the long corridor and directly into his bedroom.

Opening the wardrobe, he changed into a dress shirt that came to hand.

A glance down revealed old clothes thrown over a chair.

One of them was an outfit Adeline had chosen for him during their visit to the town.

‘…Unbelievable. I wore something like this.’

Ex-husband Wants Reconciliation

One-line summary: Chasing the wife to the crematorium (making an effort to attract someone who has become indifferent), the female lead doesn’t look back, the second male lead takes the position.

Intro:

To repay the kindness of the older generation, Su Mu crossed into a female-dominated world and became a live-in daughter-in-law of the Yan family, single-handedly saving the Yan family from fire and water.

But her husband, Yan Jiyue, the eldest son of the Yan family, treated her with sarcasm and never showed her a good face.

It wasn’t until after Su Mu’s death that this pampered and arrogant young master shed a few fake tears and pretended to want to die for love.

This life’s kindness was enough. If there was a next life, she would definitely kick Yan Jiyue away.

Who knew that the heavens would be so kind as to allow her to be reborn, returning to the time when she had just married into the Yan family.

Su Mu glanced at the Yan eldest son, who still spoke coldly to her, and threw a divorce letter in front of him.

“Let’s divorce!”

***

Yan Jiyue never imagined that he would be reborn. He happily went to find Su Mu, wanting to make up for the mistakes he had made in his ignorant youth.

Wasn’t the reason the heavens allowed him to be reborn to let him reconcile with Su Mu?

But when he pushed open the door to Su Mu’s room, the person lying on the bed was another man.

Su Mu’s personal attendant, Xie Yi.

Yan Jiyue hated him so much that his teeth itched. In front of Su Mu, Xie Yi was a gentle and considerate whisperer of sweet nothings, but in reality, he was vicious-hearted and deliberately sabotaged their husband and wife relationship.

In the previous life, it was he who secretly hid in Su Mu’s coffin and committed suicide, stealing a step ahead of him to be buried with Su Mu.

Yan Jiyue’s eyes were filled with hatred as he cursed, “What kind of thing are you? Your background is lowly, what right do you have to occupy Su Mu?”

Xie Yi looked at the sleeping Su Mu and no longer pretended to be a whisperer of sweet nothings.

He proudly stuck out his belly, “I have the right because my belly is capable of giving the Wife-master a daughter.”

***

Yan Jiyue was consumed with jealousy. He spread rumors that Xie Yi had once been branded with the mark of a “harlot” on his chest.

But on the night Xie Yi cut off the flesh bearing that mark, Su Mu suddenly realized something was amiss.

“How did you know the exact moment I was poisoned? And why did you show up a month early?”

Xie Yi remained silent, blood from his wound soaking through his robes. His sapphire eyes brimmed with anguish – or was it just a flawless act?

Between a once-arrogant husband now seeking redemption, and a gentle soul willing to die for her – who truly held the darkest secrets? And could it be that Su Mu and Yan Jiyue weren’t the only ones given a second chance at life…?

[Reading Guide]

1. True divorce, chasing the wife to the crematorium, the female lead doesn’t look back, the male lead is Xie Yi.

2. The ex-husband did not cheat, he just realized too late and didn’t realize that he liked the female lead.
