Hestia nodded, gathering her wet hair and sweeping it over one shoulder.

But there were no more words. The careful yet diligent hands that had been moving just moments before were no longer felt.

Only then did she sense something odd and glanced back—Angela’s stiff face, repeatedly swallowing hard, came into view.

“Angela? What’s wrong?”

She tried signaling that it was fine to speak freely, but Angela seemed utterly unable to open her mouth.

As if her throat had seized up, she tilted her head awkwardly, twisting her pretty face into a strange grimace in a desperate attempt to force out a sound.

After a long while, Angela finally managed to speak in a voice half-choked with tears.

“Is there anything I can do for you, Your Highness? Did you perhaps… not want it last night…?”

Only then did Hestia realize what Angela was trying to ask.

Before Angela could even finish her sentence, Hestia shook her head firmly.

“No. Angela, nothing like that happened.”

“But… you two weren’t on good terms, were you? I know how Duke Kalati treated you….”

“Yes, that’s true. It was like that before… but not this time. Never this time.”

Seeing that her maid still looked unconvinced, Hestia had no choice but to raise her voice again, speaking with deliberate emphasis.
