“Noona, is Uncle not coming today?”

Noah asked cautiously, glancing at Cassel’s empty seat. The child’s eyes darted quickly this way and that, as if reading the room.

Riena, who had been lost in thought about last night’s dream, responded a little late.

“…Huh? What did you say?”

“I asked if Uncle’s not coming today.”

“Mm, I guess he’s not hungry. Don’t worry—let’s just eat.”

Noah’s eyebrows drooped downward as he watched Riena’s unusually distant expression.

Living neglected in the Lorraine manor had made Noah unusually perceptive for his age. Perhaps the child had already sensed something had happened between the two adults.

Riena almost spoke up to say it wasn’t like that—but stopped herself. Instead, she cut the sausage on Noah’s plate into bite-sized pieces and spread generous amounts of butter and jam on his bread.

While Noah ate warily, Riena left her own portion untouched. Her mouth felt dry, and even her drink wouldn’t go down.

Noah gulped down the last of his bread in one hurried bite, then speared a sausage with his fork and held it out to Riena.

“Hmm?”

After chewing and swallowing the bread in his mouth, the child spoke.

“Noona should eat too.”

“I’m not really hungry…”
