Riena grasped Cassel’s trembling fist.

“It’s not too late yet. There’s still plenty of time to give Noah good memories. So, did you manage to talk with the Marquis?”

“At first, Marquis Lorraine insisted on raising both children here in the marquisate as they are now. He said he couldn’t bear to see them treated like burdens at the Winkler estate, but to me, it seemed he was just trying to hide the fact that he’d neglected Noah all this time.”

“And then?”

“After a long discussion, we agreed that I’d take only Noah for now.”

What could they have possibly discussed for Marquis Lorraine to give up his stubborn stance? Riena asked Cassel about it, but he refused to answer until the end.

‘Could there be some complicated backstory?’

If so, she had no right to pry any further. Instead of pressing him with more questions, Riena rose from her seat and reached out her hand to Cassel.

“Then are you taking Noah today? It was a good thing I asked them to prepare a room yesterday. The children must be waiting. Let’s hurry back.”

After hesitating briefly, Cassel took her hand and stood up.

Walking side by side back to the playroom, hand in hand, Riena glanced sideways at Cassel’s profile.

She suddenly realized just how little she truly knew about him.

They’d briefly lived together as children, but that was all. The time they’d spent apart was far longer than the time they’d shared.

She wanted to fill that ten-year gap between them.

She wanted to understand Cassel better—and she wanted him to know more about her as well.
