As always, Cassel was already seated in the dining room. Noah sat next to him, and Riena sat across from them.

While placing the napkin on her thigh and waiting for the meal, Cassel asked.

“Did you have a good time?”

“Yes!”

She answered with an excited voice.

“It was really fun. We ate at a famous restaurant, looked at accessories at stalls, played games. And we bought some snacks too.”

Noah exclaimed in a clear voice.

“The chocolates and cakes sister bought were so delicious!”

“Really?”

“Yes!”

Cassel gently stroked Noah’s head as he laughed, “Hehe.”

“I’m glad you enjoyed your sightseeing. Was there anything uncomfortable?”

“Not at all. All three people were kind and fun. Thanks to them, I lost track of time while sightseeing. Ah, thank you.”

Riena greeted the servant who set down the soup bowl, then continued speaking.

“I wish you had come with us. Noah too.”

“The festival is held every year, so let’s go together when we have the chance.”

“Alright. Is that a promise?”

“Yes.”

Riena enjoyed the meal pleasantly with Noah and Cassel. Noah begged to hear more about the festival, and Cassel listened quietly but with interest to Riena’s stories.

On the way back to her room after leaving the child with the nanny, Riena glanced at Cassel who was escorting her, remembering the chocolate she hadn’t given him yet.

“Do you have something to say?”

“No! I mean, actually… yes.”

Riena reflexively denied at first, then quickly changed her words.

Cassel leaned closer to her. She could feel the heat emanating from him as he drew near. It must be because of his naturally high body temperature.

Though it didn’t quite fit the moment, Riena was reminded of the day she went horseback riding with Cassel, when they got caught in the rain and climbed up to the watchtower.

The heat radiating from his solid body pressed close without a gap. His rough, uneven breathing.

The gaze that looked down at her longingly.

And the inexplicable desire she felt for him in that moment.

Riena unknowingly blushed slightly and raised her head.

“…Ria?”

“No, um, actually I have something I want to give you…”

“For me?”

“Yes. It’s a gift, but also not quite a gift, it’s rather insignificant…”

As Riena mumbled, Cassel carefully took her hand in his.

“I’ll be happy with anything you give me.”

“Really?”

“Yes.”

Cassel smiled gently.

“Then wait just a moment. I’ll bring it right out.”

Riena went into her room and brought out the box she had carefully put away. Cassel looked quite interested at what she was hiding behind her back.

Riena held out the box that the clerk had nicely wrapped. Cassel received the box with a puzzled expression.

Riena murmured as if making an excuse.

“It’s nothing special, but I heard there was a famous dessert shop while passing by, so I bought some chocolates. For Noah too.”

“Chocolates… you say?”

“Yes. I haven’t seen you eat them directly, but I think I heard that you liked them when you were young.”

Riena watched Cassel’s expression as he looked down at the gift without opening it. But she still couldn’t tell what he was thinking at all.

“I bought chocolates with alcohol in them in case you don’t like things that are too sweet, but maybe you don’t like that?”

“No, I like it.”

Only then did Cassel unwrap the package. Looking at the chocolates neatly arranged in the box, he explained.

“I was reminded of my brother for a moment.”

“Ah…”

He smiled bitterly.

“Every time I saw chocolate, I was reminded of my brother and couldn’t bring myself to eat it. My father also didn’t approve of me eating desserts, so I decided to give it up altogether. So it’s been a really long time since I’ve smelled chocolate.”

Riena carefully asked.

“Did I do something unnecessary?”

“No.”

He relaxed his expression.

“Thanks to you, I was able to face something I had been avoiding. Thank you for the gift. I think I’ll eat one whenever I feel like having something sweet.”

Riena tried to gauge the truth of his words by examining his expression. But it seemed he wasn’t fabricating a lie for Riena’s sake, but truly resolving to confront his wounds.

Riena hoped that only good things would fill Cassel’s path forward as he tried to make a new start.

“You know, Cas.”

Riena took another step closer to him.

“If you ever have a hard time, and it’s difficult to endure alone, I’ll help you overcome it together.”

“…”

“So, you can put down some of your heavy burdens now.”

After a moment of silence, Cassel replied.

“Thank you.”

His expression as he said that looked a bit more at ease.

A letter arrived for Riena. But this time, instead of Amy, the head butler brought the letter himself.

Riena looked curiously at the butler’s stern face before picking up the letter placed on the silver tray.

And the moment she confirmed the seal stamped on the letter, she was startled. Chills ran down her spine.

“Isn’t this the imperial crest?”

“It is.”

“Who on earth from the imperial family would…”

“Judging by the color of the wax seal, it seems to be from Her Majesty the Empress. Each direct imperial family member uses a designated wax seal color.”

“Why would Her Majesty the Empress…”

“For your reference, the master has also received a letter from His Majesty the Emperor.”

Knowing that Cassel had received one too made her feel even more complicated. What on earth did the Emperor and Empress want from the two of them?

Part of her wanted to just seal the letter back up and ignore it. But the sender was the Empress, and ignoring her letter would be insulting the imperial family.

Riena took a deep breath and opened the letter.

The handwriting in the letter was more elegant and beautiful than any penmanship Riena had ever seen. It was like looking at a well-drawn picture rather than writing.

Riena read the letter with some admiration.

The content of the letter was more ordinary than she had worried, but also a bit surprising.

“What does it say?”

Riena folded the letter, snapping out of her shock at Amy’s voice.

“It seems Her Majesty the Empress wishes for Cas and me to attend the upcoming imperial banquet.”

“A banquet?”

“Yes. I think the letter Cas received from His Majesty the Emperor is probably similar…”

Her head was in a whirl. There was supposed to be a banquet at the imperial palace on the last day of the Founding Festival.

When they were fitting dresses earlier, Cassel had said they would decide about attending the banquet later, but Riena had momentarily forgotten about it. She had other things to worry about, and had inwardly decided not to attend.

But a personal letter from the Empress? The wording said she would like to see their faces at the banquet if possible, but it was essentially a demand.

Who in the empire could refuse an invitation from the Emperor and Empress?

But surprisingly, that person was right nearby.

“You don’t need to worry about the letter from Her Majesty the Empress.”

Cassel said without hesitation after hearing Riena’s story. Riena was quite taken aback by his reaction.

“Are you saying to ignore it?”

“I will reply to His Majesty the Emperor that we will not be attending and will soon be heading to Winckler territory. Weren’t you worried about going to the banquet?”

“…Not attend? Is it because you’re worried about me? Although I wasn’t thrilled about the banquet, Their Majesties personally sent letters. Saying we won’t go, and it’s not even about winter preparations for Winckler territory, if you’re really doing this because of me, that’s absurd.”

“His Majesty will understand. I’ll make sure it doesn’t reflect badly on you…”

“That’s not the issue!”

Riena cut him off and refuted without realizing.

“Of course, His Majesty the Emperor probably won’t say anything or penalize us even if we don’t go. Because you’re the Duke of Winckler.”

“…”

“But I want to avoid anything that could potentially harm you, even a little. No one knows for sure how His Majesty the Emperor will really react.”

Riena calmed her excitement and smiled.

“And thinking about it, attending the banquet once might not be so bad. I’ve been staying only at the Winckler mansion since coming to the capital, right? Of course, I’ve met nice people like Amy and Ryan and had a good time. But regardless of how I consider them as friends, we can’t really be true friends, can we?”

“…”

“I’d like to attend the imperial banquet where many nobles gather and meet other people too.”

Riena urged him as he kept his mouth shut.

“What do you think? Isn’t it a good idea?”

“…Are you really alright with it?”

“Of course. It’s not like the banquet is a battlefield, why wouldn’t I be alright?”

Cassel thought for a moment before reluctantly nodding.

“I understand. Then I’ll reply accordingly.”

“I’ll send a reply to Her Majesty the Empress saying we’ll attend too.”

And so, the two were almost forcibly set to attend the banquet.

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.

In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.

When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.

She makes his life a living hell.

And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!

Intro

Dong Xia lost her memory.

Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”

Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.

…

The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.

She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.

Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.

No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

*

Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.

The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.

In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.

The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.

And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Notes:

1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.

2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
