Dorothe, clad not in her usual dress but in riding attire, had evidently just finished riding and dismounted her horse with practiced ease.

Though riding was considered an essential accomplishment among nobles, she confessed she had secretly learned it from the stablemaster, having never received proper instruction.

Affection for the horse she’d raised since childhood shimmered clearly in Dorothe’s eyes, and even now, she said, she still roamed the fields freely with it.

“Without my Danny, I would’ve withered and died within the palace.”
