Hye Yoon belatedly closed her agape mouth. Hurriedly pressing her lips together, she even gulped down a nervous swallow to dispel the awkwardness. She wanted to deliver a neatly wrapped reply, yet that simple little phrase refused to come out easily.

The words “It’s okay,” all crumpled up inside her mouth, had now grown damp and limp—no longer okay at all. Ji Ho had been silently watching that discomfort in her eyes the whole time.

“Should I not go?”

His smile was as warm as his tone, gently soothing her simmering emotions.

“Ah…”

So Hye Yoon hated herself. Even though she’d been given another chance, she felt pathetic for still failing to say the words she’d prepared. The only thing that wiped away that childish, petulant feeling was when Ji Ho firmly grasped her hand.

She’d momentarily forgotten they were even holding hands. Her gaze lifted toward him, seeking the reassurance his grip conveyed. As if he’d been waiting for just that moment, Ji Ho quietly voiced his heart.

“I’ll hate it too if you hate it.”

Hye Yoon bit down hard inside her mouth. She never imagined hearing “I hate it” could sound so sweet. It felt as though the six unspoken words trailing that sentence were whispering directly into her ears:

“No matter what it is.”

In truth, it wasn’t that she hated it—it was that she lacked confidence. She’d never gone nearly a whole season without seeing someone she cared about, whether friend or family. She’d never even imagined it before.

“When’s the shoot? Next month?”

“No way. It’s still a long time off. If it happens, probably around autumn.”

“…I see.”

“Yeah. Later… I’ll come by your place once work’s done. Think it over slowly until then.”
