It felt as though she’d just drifted through another brief, shallow sleep. Hye Yoon slowly lifted her eyelids. By the time her vision sharpened enough to recognize the wall ahead, sounds that had previously failed to register now brushed softly against her ears.

The occasional rustle—paper turning. And also the large, warm hand gently stroking her back.

‘…Cozy.’

The room was peacefully quiet. Hye Yoon silently savored the sensations from the person behind her. Ji Ho seemed to remove his hand from her back only in those brief moments when flipping a page—each rustle coincided precisely with the pause of his light, reassuring pats.

And then came the soft, rhythmic pat-pat again—tapping gently against her heart.

She was certain she’d slept deeply and sweetly, forgetting even her pain. Conviction came as easily as breathing under such slow, tender strokes.

But soon, a sudden fear crept in. Had his hands not washed away her worries—but instead gathered them up and carried them off for himself? Ji Ho would absolutely do something like that. And she really didn’t like that thought.

At last, unsettled, Hye Yoon turned her body. His hand stilled at her movement. The moment their eyes met, a ticklish curiosity plopped right into the center of her chest.

‘Does the warmth from his fingertips begin in his eyes?’

Ji Ho gazed down at her with eyes that seemed almost steaming. Not wanting to share that warmth with anyone else, she met his gaze with equally deep eyes.

His focused, brown irises. Ji Ho, seemingly amused by her intensity, tilted his head slightly—but didn’t look away.

A ticklish staring contest.

Then, a voice drifted into Hye Yoon’s ear—determined to finally win this little game.

“You keep showing me only your back.”

“Ugh… I lost….”
