Hye Yoon stared at the bright yellow chat bubble hovering alone on her screen.

“Sigh…”

From 7 PM, right around quitting time, until late into the night—except for a brief shower—she had clutched her phone the entire time. All she wanted to say was just one sentence.

“I’m sorry.” Just these few words.

She must’ve erased and rewritten that simple phrase countless times. Her thumb, hovering near the send button for hours, finally gathered enough courage to press it.

Today, Hye Yoon realized something for certain: she didn’t want to stand beyond the line Ji Ho had drawn, nor did she want to lose the consistent kindness he’d always shown her. She simply wished she could look up and meet his eyes whenever she missed him.

It didn’t matter who Ji Ho was—she liked him. Admitting this pure, unblemished truth brought her peace. She finally scooped out the sharp, chaotic fragments that had muddled her heart, as if lifting them lightly with a sieve.

Of course, a few shards had stubbornly survived and still drifted inside her small chest.

“Is it still not over…?”

Midnight had passed, yet no reply came.

“Ah… he must still be upset. How foolish of me—I forgot all about what I did today and just waited for his reply.”

Overwhelmed by the clarity of her own feelings, she’d briefly forgotten the rudeness she’d shown him. It stung a bit, but she knew she was at fault. She closed her eyes, ending this unusually long day along with her eyelids.

With the thought that she probably wouldn’t have sweet dreams.

“Good job. But it’s not like this every day, right?”
