Isabel’s face flushed instantly.

“Hey! Are you teasing me? You’re way prettier!”

“Me? Pretty?”

“Of course you are! Don’t you even look in the mirror? Wait a moment!”

Isabel sprang to her feet, grabbed the hand mirror from the table, and held it right in front of Ariana’s face.

Ariana stared at her own reflection in the mirror.

Perhaps because she’d just been looking at Isabel’s lively expression, her own face in the mirror seemed unusually gloomy—dull eyes, a stiff mouth, and a somber expression.

“See? You’re much prettier.”

“I don’t know… I think you’re prettier, older sister.”

“Oh, come on. Don’t go saying that anywhere else—you’ll get mocked. Especially be careful around the young ladies coming to tomorrow’s party.”
