After finishing their meal, Ariana walked alone with Cyrus through the garden. Though they hardly exchanged words, he looked utterly delighted—and so did Ariana.

The hedges, tended by a skilled gardener, and the flowers in the beds were especially beautiful that day. Ariana walked, brushing the petals lightly with her fingertips.

Sunlight settled upon Ariana’s hair. She swept her hair back and looked up at the sky.

“The weather is lovely.”

“The sky looks just like your hair.”

Her heart fluttered at such an ordinary exchange. He gently took the tip of Ariana’s hair and brought it softly to his lips.

“My lord of Bukje seems fond of kissing.”

“I hadn’t realized it myself, but I suppose I am. But, Rian—how long will you keep calling me ‘my lord of Bukje’?”

Being addressed by a pet name still made her cheeks burn. Ariana carefully pulled her hair from his grasp and spoke softly.

“Sei.”

A picture-perfect smile spread across his lips. It was so lovely that she instantly regretted not having called him that sooner.

“Will you dance the first dance with me at tomorrow’s party?”

Ariana shook her head at his question, which sounded as though it required no answer.

“We’ll see.”

“Oh dear. I’d better step up my game.”
