The mercenaries were in pursuit.
Rozalin was quick, but Ariana was not. Rozalin noticed that Ariana could not keep up with her and stopped in her tracks.
Ariana was running barefoot after having thrown off her shoes, but with her weak body and being dressed in a soggy skirt, it was too much to run quickly through a forest with no path.
The mercenaries were just about to catch up to Ariana.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Rozalin threw herself at the mercenaries.
Chaeang [dash]!
A mercenary’s sword that was falling towards Ariana’s shoulder was deflected to the side by Rozalin’s sword.
Sparks flew from the clashing blades.
“How dare you, woman!”
The man whose sword was blocked growled. Rozalin emotionlessly moved her left hand.
A hidden spell shot out and pierced the man’s abdomen.
“Guh!”
The man who was hit by the unexpected attack widened his eyes and clutched his stomach. Rozalin skillfully dodged the sword attacking her from the side, twisted her upper body, and slashed the throat of the one attacking her from behind.
Sak [dash]
Even though it seemed like she hadn’t used much force, blood gushed from the opponent’s neck like a fountain.
Rozalin kicked the nearby man’s abdomen, pushing him away, then grabbed Ariana’s arm.
“Run.”
“Yes!”
Ariana ran.
The damp air of the forest brushed against her cheeks. Her weak lungs screamed, her feet felt like they were being torn apart by rocks and branches, but she did not stop running.
Ssaak [dash]!
An arrow flying from somewhere.
Chaeang [dash]!
Rozalin blocked it with her sword.
But she could not block the second arrow that almost simultaneously came flying.
Puk [dash]!
The arrow stuck into Rozalin’s thigh. Rozalin’s leg buckled.
“Rozalin!”
“Go, Miss. Don’t worry about me, go where you need to.”
Rozalin’s violet eyes, as she stared at Ariana, did not waver. Ariana looked at Rozalin with trembling eyes.
Unable to leave Rozalin behind, Ariana heard her say again,
“You have something you must do, don’t you?”
Those words snapped her back to reality.
Ariana clenched her teeth and clutched her skirt hem.
“I’m sorry, Rozalin.”
Rozalin did not reply.
She simply gripped her sword tightly and glared at the mercenaries.
Ariana left Rozalin and ran.
Her feeble body was pathetic. She knew it couldn’t be helped, yet still.
‘If only I were a little stronger. A little more robust.’
With vain regret, she continued to run.
Chang [dash] Chaeang [dash]!
“Ahh!”
“Gasp!”
The sound of clashing weapons and screams reached her ears, but she did not look back.
She would soon arrive at that place.
“Grab that woman!”
Someone yelled.
“We have to kill her!”
She heard the sounds of those pursuing her.
Ariana did not look back, looking only ahead, and hurried her heavy, aching legs, continuing to run.
Her lungs felt like they were on fire. A sweet taste filled her mouth. Cuts and bruises covered her body from the thick brush and branches.
As the footsteps behind her drew closer, Ariana stopped.
A precipice stretched out before her.
“Hahahaha. What’s this, I thought you were running away, but you found a place to die?”
The men following her laughed at Ariana.
Ariana turned to face them.
Only three men had followed Ariana. The rest must be dealing with Rozalin.
‘Rozalin, will she be okay?’
She worried about Rozalin, but there was nothing Ariana could do.
This was what it meant to have no power or strength. Even if you wanted to help someone, you couldn’t.
The cliff behind her was a gamble.
Ariana had been in a similar situation before. What she had faced then were real bandits.
While fleeing, Ariana had reached this cliff, and rather than being captured and defiled by the bandits, she had chosen death.
It looked like a thousandmile cliff, but right below was a narrow ledge. Ariana had luckily fallen there, and although severely injured, she had survived.
In the cave over there, there was a lake, and if you walk along the path inside the lake, you arrive at the other side of the mountain.
‘If it works out, I can deceive them and save my life. They will report to Rachel that I fell off the cliff and died, and I will be able to buy time.’
The jaw beneath the cliff was very narrow, so he had to fall just right.
If he falls too carefully, they’ll suspect, so it has to look like he’s trying to kill himself.
“Hey, miss. Die quickly if you’re going to die. Or die by our hands.”
“What a shame, miss. You’re so young. What have you done to deserve this?”
“But miss, you’re pretty.”
One of the men smiled ominously.
He looked at his colleagues and chuckled maliciously.
“We might make some money selling her…….”
“We must kill her.”
“Just say we killed her. How would they know if she fell off the cliff?”
“Yeah. They didn’t ask us to bring the body.”
Ariana quietly backstepped while they were making plans to sell her, approaching the cliff.
And she quickly checked the jaw beneath the cliff.
‘So narrow.’
Luck was on her side then. She didn’t know if it would be again.
My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.
The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
