To the Missing Secretary (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 12
Unlike before, Ra Jin’s action of eagerly accepting his breath made his heart feel like it was about to burst.
Pushed relentlessly by Jae Heon, she kept sliding backward until her back hit the door.
Jae Heon scooped Ra Jin up and headed toward the bedroom.
“From this moment on, the contract takes effect.”
Contract.
Ra Jin thought it was clearly strange that she felt reassured by those words.
Even if he only wanted her body, even if he would soon marry another woman… she was satisfied simply by becoming more deeply entangled with Jae Heon.
Just knowing she wasn’t alone in this moment made her so happy she nearly cried.
“Okay. I want it too… Mr. Jae Heon.”
The two sealed their contract with a burning imprint upon each other.
After exchanging heated breaths.
‘How fascinating.’
Her body fit perfectly into Jae Heon’s arms, as if tailor-made for him.
Despite her somewhat cool appearance, her skin was soft and warm.
Jae Heon felt both surprised and deeply satisfied.
He’d never felt this fulfilled—not even after successfully leading a project to outstanding results.
“Are you going home now?”
Ra Jin slowly lifted her eyelids.
“Do I have to go?”
She didn’t want to be alone today.
She wished to fall asleep right here, nestled in Jae Heon’s broad, solid embrace.
Or better yet, perhaps they should spend the entire night having an in-depth discussion about their contract.
But… if he didn’t want that, she’d have to step back immediately.
After all, she was his secretary—and now also bound by contract.
“No.”
Then Jae Heon cupped Ra Jin’s cheek.
“Don’t go. Stay here.”
She tightened her lips slightly.
He probably had no idea how his words had just felt like a ray of salvation to her.
“…Thank you. Truly.”
“For what?”
“Just… for holding me like this. Honestly… um… I thought you’d… want to…”
Understanding the meaning behind her hesitant words, Jae Heon raised an eyebrow dismissively.
“Just… you seemed like you needed comfort.”
More precisely, she seemed to need only comfort.
When she came to his place, Ra Jin had looked somehow fragile. Jae Heon knew well that someone with such eyes usually longed for nothing more than kind words or a warm embrace.
Because he himself had once been that way.
“And thank you again.”
“For what this time?”
“For letting me stay here.”
At her words, Jae Heon let out a short, exasperated breath.
“Did I look like the kind of guy who’d send you home alone at this hour?”
“You dislike any kind of physical contact. Even accidental brushes.”
That… Jae Heon’s lips twitched as his words failed him.
It was true—just as she said, he disliked physical touch.
Ever since his parents passed away.
The habit of always greeting his parents with warm hugs had tormented him after he was left alone.
During that difficult time, he shut himself off from getting close to anyone.
Because being alone meant he had nothing to lose—now and forever.
So he consciously avoided contact with others.
Trending
Meanwhile, his scheming uncle’s family kept trying to force their people onto him, eyeing his position.
This heightened his wariness and solidified his aversion to physical contact.
Yet now, holding Ra Jin tightly against him, he didn’t mind it at all.
Quite the opposite.
He wanted to stay like this—touching her—forever.
The faint fragrance rising from Ra Jin’s body gently soothed his perpetually tense nerves.
“Strangely enough, Secretary Sa is fine.”
For some reason, Jae Heon’s heart itched uncomfortably, making it impossible for him to say her name.
Meanwhile, Ra Jin’s heart ached at his immediate formality—calling her “Secretary Sa” right after their kiss.
She was suddenly reminded that to him, she was nothing more than a party to a contract.
‘I knew this from the start… so why do I feel so miserable?’
They say human greed has no limits—and it seemed they were right.
She understood clearly in her mind that becoming his temporary lover didn’t make her “his,” yet her heart refused to accept it.
‘Get a grip.’
She had to be careful not to foolishly wish for his affection.
Then Ra Jin suddenly widened her eyes.
“What is it?”
“I think I really do need to go home.”
Jae Heon unconsciously scowled.
“Didn’t you just say you’d stay?”
“I can’t wear the same outfit as yesterday. It’s gotten quite wrinkled.”
Seeing Ra Jin blush and trail off shyly, Jae Heon’s heart suddenly pounded wildly.
‘What’s wrong with me?’
He decided he’d need to pay extra attention during this year’s health check-up, then adjusted his hold on her.
He feared something might break if he kept staring at her face.
“Director?”
“Director?” Hearing her address him so formally made Jae Heon involuntarily exhale a low, soft breath.
Just moments ago, she’d been calling him “Mr. Jae Heon” just fine.
She’d even asked him to use his name when they were alone.
Yet the moment their lips parted, she snapped right back to “Director” at lightning speed.
‘How utterly meticulous.’
Well—it made sense. Even if he was acting strangely due to some odd, itching feeling in his chest, Ra Jin surely wasn’t feeling the same.
He had no idea that she’d reverted to formal address only because she worried he might dislike her calling him by name.
“You don’t need to worry about that.”
Jae Heon held her hand with one hand and used the other to send a message to his personal shopper via phone.
As a VVIP client paying exorbitant fees, he could obtain absolutely anything he wanted at any time.
He typed a message instructing that, by 5:30 a.m. today, office attire and cosmetics suitable for a slim woman 164 cm tall be delivered to his front door. After placing the phone down, he pulled her close again.
Though Jae Heon had always loathed physical contact, he now wanted to relive that thrilling yet comforting feeling from moments ago.
“Director, wait— I can’t breathe…”
“We need to get used to each other. We shouldn’t slack off on practicing closeness.”
Resting his chin on the top of Ra Jin’s now-silent head, he wore a satisfied expression.
He’d never realized how pleasant it could feel to be in contact with someone.
“I have a question.”
“Yes, please go ahead.”
“Why did you accept my proposal?”
“…For the reason you mentioned this morning.”
The reason I mentioned this morning?
“I’m curious why you made such an offer to me.”
“Secretary Sa knows as well as I do—we match quite well.”
“Is that the only reason?”

“Then does Secretary Sa have another reason in mind?”
Ah. Jae Heon furrowed his brow.
…Right. I did say that. I was the one who brought it up first.
I must be losing my mind. Otherwise, I wouldn’t feel so oddly disappointed, frustrated, and unsettled by Ra Jin’s perfectly reasonable answer.
So he blurted out like a bomb.
“I’d like us to sleep together starting today.”
“Oh—starting today?”
“Yes. Is that a problem?”
Weren’t we just going to sleep normally?
The moment Ra Jin’s face flushed crimson—
“I mean sleep in the same space.”
“In the same… space?”
“Well? Were you expecting something else?”
“No, no, not at all.”
“They say strong denial is strong affirmation. Anyway, this is included in my terms—you don’t have to cling to me, just sleep in the same space.”
Ra Jin was more than happy with that—but she was curious about his reason.
“Won’t it be uncomfortable for you?”
“Not at all.”
“But… you’ve always done everything alone.”
I sleep better with you beside me.
Jae Heon almost said it—but held back, fearing it might burden her.
She was already stretched thin adjusting to his schedule and barely had time for herself; adding the responsibility of helping him sleep would surely weigh on her.
It was better to keep his reason hidden, in case something ever prevented them from sleeping together—so she wouldn’t feel any unnecessary guilt.
“Apart from doing things alone, we’ve always been together anyway.”
Ra Jin bit her lip. A warm, tender emotion swelled inside her.
At least there was one person in the world who seemed to need her.
“I’d like you to accept this condition. In return, I’ll offer compensation…”
“Very well.”
Ra Jin answered quickly. She wasn’t rejecting his proposal—she just wanted to understand his reason.
In fact, she was glad for the chance to stay closer to him.
And perhaps, as they grew even closer, she’d eventually hear his reason.
“I accept.”
Jae Heon woke with a smile.
His body felt exceptionally refreshed after a good night’s sleep.
The usual dull headache and heavy shoulders were now light and crisp.
This confirmed it: sleeping in the same space as Ra Jin kept nightmares away and let him fall into deep, peaceful slumber.
Ra Jin finished getting ready in the bathroom attached to the bedroom, while Jae Heon did the same in the living room bathroom.
“All dressed?”
At the sound of his voice, Ra Jin stepped out of the dressing room.
The white blouse and dark gray H-line skirt—delivered by the personal shopper at dawn—fit her as if custom-tailored.
“You look great.”
Flustered by his comment, Ra Jin quickly changed the subject.
“I’ll wear these neatly and return them after dry cleaning.”
“No, keep wearing them, Secretary Sa.”
“No, they’re far too expensive to just accept as a gift.”
Though the price tags had been cleanly removed, the brand labels and fabric quality clearly indicated their high value.
“Then just throw them away.”
“Director.”
“I can’t use them anyway, and they’re non-refundable.”
That was true. While Ra Jin paused, searching for a reply, Jae Heon—who’d been studying her—spoke again.

“I should order a scarf too.”
“What? No, not even a scarf…”
“You’ll need one—unless you want people to gossip that you spent the night with me.”
His gaze drifted to her neck.
It was an utterly tempting look.
“It looks like you scratched your neck in your sleep. There’s a mark right there—just the kind that invites misunderstanding.”
Ra Jin’s eyes widened as she hurriedly covered her throat with her hand.
“If you actually want people to misunderstand, then go ahead as you are.”
“No!”
She’d checked herself in the mirror both in the bathroom and while changing in the dressing room—and everything had seemed fine.
True, Jae Heon’s traces from the night before still bloomed like red petals across her body, but she’d thought the parts visible above her clothes were clean—thankfully.
‘Where exactly is this mark he’s talking about?’
Watching Ra Jin’s flustered reaction, the corner of Jae Heon’s mouth lifted slightly.
Seeing someone so meticulous become so careless was always refreshing—and rather adorable.
Still smiling, he closed the distance between them in one swift step.
“Here.”
Jae Heon swept her long, loose hair to the side and gently cupped the back of her neck.
“It’s right here.”
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
