‘Damn, damn, damn!’

Cold sweat dripped down Joo Han’s back. If he took off his jacket, his shirt would probably be soaked.

“Chef William, you misunderstand.”

Joo Han spoke in English, but William retorted,

“Do you think I’m not only infuriating but also deaf?”

Caught off guard by William’s near-native Korean, Joo Han stuttered,

“No, that’s not what I meant…”

“If I were to sign a contract with another company.”

At those words, Joo Han caught his breath.

“Would Geonyeong Foods suffer? It’s a large company, so maybe not. I’m quite curious.”

“Chef William, please, can we discuss this privately?”

“Well, don’t worry. I still intend to sign with Geonyeong Foods.”

“Really?”

Joo Han’s face lit up.

Of course, whatever the reason, he knew that the land in Chuncheon held significant importance to William.

They had already finished negotiations with the landowner.

Now, he just needed to give a half-hearted apology and proceed with the deal…

“Yes, I plan to proceed with the project with Geonyeong Foods’ Executive Director Seo Jae Heon.”

“What did you say?”
“This collaboration holds significant meaning to me. It’s imperative that I work with someone who understands my intentions and feelings, with whom I can resonate. I choose Director Seo Jae Heon for this role.”

Joo Han tried to cling further to William, but he was coldly brushed off.

“I do not wish to be disturbed in my personal time any further.”

“Chef!”

“That will be all.”

William said to Ra Jin.

“Let’s go.”

“Hold on, why is your secretary coming along? You said you didn’t want to be disturbed in your personal time!”

As Joo Han blocked their path and shouted, William casually shrugged.

“Ra Jin and I are friends.”

Friends? Joo Han stared blankly at the retreating figures.

Jae Heon, approaching him, patted Joo Han’s shoulder in a consoling manner.

“At least that’s a relief.”

At that, Joo Han’s eyes darted.

“Relief? Did you just say relief?”

“If we had excitedly informed our grandfather in advance, it would have been even worse, right?”

“Ugh…”

“Take care on your way back, hyung.”

After a few steps, Jae Heon half-turned, “Ah,”

“Don’t worry and get some rest. I will make sure this project is successful.”

Joo Han, trying to chase after Jae Heon, was desperately held back by Director Yoon.

“Executive Director, you must restrain yourself! There are many eyes watching!”

“Let go! Hey, Director Yoon! What were you doing while that young lady was winning over William? Aren’t you ashamed to take a salary? If you had assisted me properly, this wouldn’t have happened!”

“I’m sorry! Executive Director, I suggest we move to another location…”

Joo Han forcefully removed Director Yoon’s hand from his arm.

“You’re all so useless.”

“…I apologize.”

“Call the landowner.”

“Understood.”

However, dire news came.

[Dash] Ah, about that… But we didn’t sign any contract.

“What do you mean? Sir, how can this be? Weren’t we supposed to draft the contract today!”

[Dash] That’s the thing. If you had come earlier today and drafted it, I wouldn’t have sold it to someone else.

“Sold, you say?”

At the trembling voice of Director Yoon, Joo Han felt his heart drop.

“Director Yoon, what do you mean?”
“[Dash] I sold it this morning.”

“Who did you sell it to? Was there any mention of it being from the Geon Yeong Group?”

“[Dash] Geon Yeong? I didn’t hear it was such a big company. I only heard it was a businessman from Seoul. Oh dear, our dog has made a mess again! I’ll hang up now!”

“Wait, just a moment!”

Despair spread across Director Yoon’s face as he took the phone away from his ear.

The fact that the contract had fallen through was one thing.

During the journey to Seoul and for a while after arriving, he would have to endure all of Joo Han’s irritations. The thought of reporting this to Joo Han’s father, Hwae Myung, made everything seem bleak.

Hwae Myung always blamed the staff for his son’s failures.

He wondered how he would be berated this time.

‘Sigh. Maybe I should resign.’

Then, thinking of his apartment mortgage and his children’s tuition fees, he pushed the thought of resignation aside.

It’d be a disaster if he were fired now.

Isn’t there a way to break free from this father and son without being fired?

“Why are you standing there looking so clueless?”

“I’m, I’m sorry, Executive Director.”

“Quickly resolve this situation!”

Director Yoon looked miserable under Joo Han’s sharp rebuke.

‘Sigh. Maybe it’s better to work under Director Seo Jae Heon, even if the work is hard but the compensation is certain.’

“Tell me what you want.”

He reached out and tightly held Ra Jin’s hand.

“Huh? Whatever it is, I’ll grant it.”

“Director, the chef will be here soon!”

She whispered urgently, glancing in the direction where William had disappeared.

William had briefly left to answer a call from New York.

“He might see us like this.”

Ra Jin tried hard to pull her hand free, but Jae Heon pulled her even closer.

“Ah…!”

Ra Jin found herself trapped in his broad and sturdy embrace. His large hand wrapped around her slim waist.

Their faces were so close, their breaths almost mingling.

With his gaze fixed on Ra Jin, Jae Heon tilted his head slightly to the side.

“You, my woman, seem capable of anything.”

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
