Nerea was genuinely curious about what expression Brienna had worn, surrounded as she was by so many people. The Emperor and Empress had briefly dropped by and left, and neither the Acting Count nor Helen was present.

Would she have maintained the dignified composure befitting a Crown Princess, or would she have been flustered?

“She tried very hard to hide her panic. Beneath that swan mask she wore, her expression shifted thousands of times.”

She felt the corner of her lips tilt upward. There were so many things she wanted to say to Brienna—who had misused the word “sister.”

“What a day full of good news. I was already overjoyed just knowing that Marvin Moore finally opened his tightly sealed lips.”

Nerea gestured toward one of the people standing around her. The man with neatly combed ash-brown hair in a tidy uniform gave a slight bow.

“Colton Vance. Knight Commander of Rosa, I pay my respects to Count Esteban.”

Colton Vance, Knight Commander of Rosa, had arrived late due to transporting important cargo. He bore full responsibility for Rosa’s security and claimed he owed his life to Alejandro, vowing his loyalty to her as well.

His respectful demeanor had made her assume he was a knight by birth, yet surprisingly, he turned out to be a former mercenary. Nerea wanted to ask whether he had any ties to Gauwe, but since they’d only become acquainted a day ago, she refrained.

Instead, she praised the very skill that had unlocked Marvin Moore’s silence after so long.

“The Knight Commander of Rosa certainly possesses extraordinary talent. I heard that man hadn’t spoken a word for nearly two months.”

Marvin Moore, quietly transferred to Rosa Trading Company’s underground prison as if expecting the Acting Count to rescue him, had remained completely silent.

Yet he’d spoken again—less than a full day after Colton arrived.

“Count Esteban ordered me—no, Count Gabe Esteban ordered me! I only did exactly as I was told. What else can I possibly say? Ask me anything!”

Whether this stemmed from personal resignation or another reason, Nerea didn’t bother to ask.
