To The Eternal Knight (2 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 23
Every day on the battlefield was a brush with death. Getting injured was only natural.
Some lucky days brought nothing but scrapes from armor, while other unlucky days saw Gauwe’s sword suddenly thrust through.
The sharp sensation of a blade sinking deep into flesh never felt familiar—but losing consciousness meant death.
After battles that lasted as short as three days or endlessly longer, Nerea could finally relax only when she caught sight of Alejandro’s face in the distance.
“Sir Knight, the medic will be here soon! Please, just hold on a little longer!”
Nerea gave a faint smile at the tear-streaked face desperately pleading with her. With supply lines cut off, all the medic could do was gather herbs from the mountainside and apply a makeshift salve.
Alejandro, who used to cry with a flushed face every time she opened her eyes, had at some point stopped weeping. Instead, he stood steadfast by her bedside, devoting himself entirely to her care.
“I saved these herbs especially for you. I’d forgotten about them.”
The herbs Alejandro brought were more effective than any medicine she’d ever known—perhaps even better than the expensive ointments sold in the capital.
The numbness dulled the pain, the sensation in her skin vanished, and the wounds healed quickly. Strangely, she also felt pleasantly lightheaded, as if she could do anything.
Then one day, Alejandro arrived pale as a ghost, having brought a traveling herb-seller famed for his skill. Trembling, he begged her forgiveness.
“Sir Knight… I’m truly sorry. It was my fault. I… I did something wrong.”
His voice shook pitifully. But before she could comfort him, Alejandro’s hands began trembling too as he continued.
“Those herbs I used… I got them all from the Acting Countess. She said they might come in handy someday—told me to be sure to use them if you were ever hurt.”
Only then did Nerea remember: Helen’s birth family, House of Tylerbury, had built their fortune on herbal trade.

She turned around upon hearing the noise.
He looked up at her, his eyebrows drooping: “My hand… has no strength.”
“Shall I… feed you?” she asked tentatively.
He opened his mouth cheerfully: “Ah—”
Thinking she was drowning, he jumped in without hesitation to save her, but nearly drowned himself. In the end, it was she who swam over to rescue him, giving him air underwater.
After emerging from the water, his ear tips turned red. He lightly brushed his cheek, tucking his sideburns behind his ear, revealing delicate, pink-tinged ear tips. He lowered his gaze, too embarrassed to look at her.
