The sharp clash of blades rang out from all directions. The sounds trapped inside the mansion swirled violently together with the thick smoke.

Claude couldn’t hide his panic as he frantically looked around. The more he failed to conceal his confusion, the narrower his vision became through the helmet.

His bare hands trembled uncontrollably. The sword that was supposed to protect him had already been lost while dodging that pile of corpses.

Where should he go to survive?

Claude’s eyes, scanning his surroundings aimlessly, searched only for a gap through which he could escape this hellish situation.

But that, too, lasted only a moment.

Clang—A chillingly sharp sound struck Claude’s ears. When the impact, scraping across his helmet, embedded itself into the wall behind him, Claude finally understood in his bones what it meant for one’s heart to drop.

His legs gave out, and his mind went numb. Perhaps it was a miracle he’d survived this far.

Claude desperately pressed against the wall, struggling to hide himself, and watched his surroundings with nerves stretched taut.

A faint sigh escaped his lips as he scanned the area.

Gauwe had been utterly defeated.

“Don’t retreat! Today is our final day!”

The few remaining Gauwe soldiers made one last desperate attempt to rally their spirits, but even to Claude’s eyes, they clearly appeared overwhelmed. The Gauwe army, now leaderless—both prince and emperor having vanished somewhere.

In an instant, the swords flew from the hands of the Gauwe knights who had barely managed to block the attacks, and their bodies thudded heavily to the ground.

As if the deaths of those once-fierce Gauwe knights served as the spark, even the few remaining soldiers dropped their swords.
