It was at the moment an indescribable anxiety began creeping into Nerea.

“Oh, never mind.”

Heather beamed and proudly turned toward Nerea.

“Do you know what this is, Miss? It’s a puzzle where you rearrange the letters.”

Heather’s explanation, spoken with evident excitement, sounded strangely familiar. As Nerea stared at her wide-eyed, Heather’s hand holding the pen moved even faster.

“Just by changing the arrangement like this, it becomes a whole new word.”

“……I tried that myself once. The meaning changes completely. Like ‘rose’ becoming ‘soar’…….”

Her tongue, which had been forcing a smile, suddenly stiffened. Nerea held her breath and stared at the sheet of paper filled with rearranged letters.

“Or how about ‘Soeur Nerea’? If you rearrange the letters from ‘Rosa’ like this—ta-da!—it means ‘to soar.’ Isn’t that lovely too?”

Alejandro’s words from before he’d chosen his title suddenly flashed in her mind.

Rosa and Soeur.

Two distinct words, made from the exact same letters, differing only in arrangement.

Consciously controlling her breath, Nerea turned her back to Heather. A whirlwind of suspicions surged uncontrollably within her.

“Heather.”

“Yes?”
