Baron Zenax’s eyes wavered in bewilderment.

When his gaze finally settled on Alejandro’s retreating back, the baroness softly curved the corners of her lips.

Finding that sly smile oddly reminiscent of her second son, the baroness shrugged her shoulders as if it were nothing.

“Alejandro always followed the count closely, after all.”

For a moment, Baron Zenax was dumbfounded. That remark was both overly sufficient and utterly insufficient to dispel the current ambiguity—precisely why it stirred his baseless imagination even more.

“No way… surely not.” Yet Baron Zenax shook his head.

“…That’s right. Alejandro has served as the count’s page since he was little.”

His rigid thinking could go no further; he firmly believed the relationship between lord and retainer should remain strictly within its defined boundaries.

Seeing his thoughts as clear as day, the baroness calmly said,

“Who says it was only when he was young? Don’t you remember? Even in my womb, he adored the count’s touch so much. On the day the count gave him his name, he kicked so hard my belly ached.”

“Could those rumors actually be true? Still, his age—or rather, his status—but then again, Alejandro is a count himself now…” The baroness smiled faintly. At that moment, the baron seemed confused about precisely which part bothered him.

Yet whether confused or not, there was only one proper stance for a parent to take. The baroness gently wrapped both arms around her husband’s shoulders.
