The largest and most luxurious reception room in the coffee house was filled with hazy smoke so thick that the room’s ornate and intricate decorations were barely visible.

Duke Roselini blinked his dry eyes and stretched his hand toward the side table beside him. After fumbling a few times, his fingers finally touched the cigar box on the table—its bottom now exposed, though it had been packed full when he first entered.

Duke Roselini glanced briefly toward the door. But what good would staring at the door do? After all, he himself had strictly ordered that no one be allowed in until the situation report arrived via the morning milk delivery boy.

Through the dense smoke, so thick it obscured even nearby figures, Duke Roselini scanned his surroundings.

Unlike when they first entered, the nobles from both factions had fallen utterly silent, each desperately puffing on cigars in the face of maddening anxiety.

He prayed that his aide would hurry in with the milk delivery boy’s situation report before anyone here cracked under the pressure.

As if his desperate plea had reached the heavens, Duke Roselini’s keen ears caught the sound of urgent, running footsteps approaching from afar.

Was it just a hallucination? Without even realizing it, Duke Roselini sprang to his feet. At the sudden movement of the duke, who had sat motionless like a statue until then, every noble’s gaze snapped toward him.

Bang. The door burst open, flooding the room with light. Through the doorway, where smoke was now slowly seeping out, the long-awaited aide rushed in and declared:
