The moment permission was granted by Grand Duke Edward Valer Castarti—who was now on the verge of ascending the throne as Emperor—Nerea dashed down the imperial palace steps faster than anyone else.

“I’ll follow you, My Lord. Although the Emperor has fled, the entire system hasn’t yet been fully reorganized, My Lord!”

David’s voice echoed from behind, but it was futile. It likely took her less than five minutes to sprint down three floors and corridors from the grand council chamber to the palace’s main gate.

That time had only increased because she kept encountering Rosa’s knights along the corridors.

“My Lord, where are you going? There’s still unfinished business—”

“My Lord!”

With every curt reply, a deep yearning inside Nerea gradually took clearer shape. It began with Count Rosa’s residence, enclosed behind walls so tall and sturdy that merely catching a glimpse inside felt impossible.

Hidden securely within that estate was the face she cherished most. Yet even in her imagination, those formidable walls around Rosa’s estate never barred her entrance.

Passing through the majestic main gate, she would always see the familiar gardens; following the long path between them led directly to Count Rosa’s manor, still retaining its antique grandeur.

The scenery was so vivid in her mind’s eye it might as well have been painted. Recalling the cheerful servants—Martha, Heather, Grace, Johnny, and Anja—Nerea suddenly swallowed a soft groan.

At the sudden image of her lover’s face—his jet-black hair contrasting his pale complexion, his brilliant gem-like eyes etched so deeply into her thoughts that it felt as if they were branded into her skull—only one thought crossed Nerea’s mind:

I’ll see him soon.

As she stepped into the capital city, the faint trembling in her fingertips surged violently. At the same time, it finally sank in—she was truly going to meet Alejandro.

Nerea hastily scanned her surroundings. The imperial palace knights had already been subdued and were being escorted away in chains, while servants—maids and stewards alike—were surely locked away somewhere within the palace by now.
