She had so much to say, yet Nerea found herself stammering—uncharacteristically—before Alejandro’s unexpectedly lonely-looking face.

In the corridor, where sharp-eyed servants had vanished like a receding tide, Alejandro slowly nodded.

“Yes. Just for a moment.”

Then Alejandro lowered his gaze. His long lashes cast a deep shadow across his pale cheeks. His lips, which usually spilled every detail of his whereabouts without prompting, remained tightly shut today.

What a fickle servant he was. Just days ago, he had looked at her with flushed ears, then suddenly turned cold, and now wore such a melancholy expression.
