Nerea clenched her fist tightly once, then released it, struggling to calm herself. Even though that overwhelming aura hadn’t been directed at her, the shiver that swept through her body in an instant left her skin prickling with goosebumps.

She’d never felt such intensity—not even during knightly tournaments. This sharp, lethal intent was something she’d only experienced once before, a decade ago on the battlefield.

Nerea let out a soft chuckle and turned toward him—then froze.

“What did you just say?”

“Marriage proposal?”

His face, lit with a brilliant smile as if he’d just heard the most absurd thing in the world, was strangely cold. For the first time, Nerea felt as though she herself had done something wrong and found herself blurting out excuses.

“Well… strictly speaking, it wasn’t really a genuine marriage proposal. He offered me a binding agreement of sorts.”

Her added explanation sounded pitifully inadequate.

Watching her flustered expression, Alejandro pursed his lips, then broke into another dazzlingly radiant smile.
