—Laila.

—Laila Chrisrad.

—Open your eyes.

Laila gasped for air as if just pulled from deep water. Her lungs, tightly constricted until now, finally filled with air, and the numbness in her face slowly began to recede.

Panting, she turned her head and saw Eustar’s face. He was leaning against an old tree stump, with Laila lying on a soft patch of grass beside him. He looked slightly tired, but his expression remained calm.

“You’re awake.”

“…Did I faint?”

Eustar smiled faintly and nodded. A tiny beetle perched gently on the curve of his knuckle caught her eye.

“It was your first time with ‘overlay,’ I suppose?”

Laila frowned.

“You mean possession?”

“Similar, but not quite. Possession is when a spirit borrows a medium’s body—speaking through the medium’s voice and granting them unusual abilities under the spirit’s influence. For example… Tell me, if a perfectly possessed medium were stabbed with a knife, what would happen?”

Laila, blinking while still lying down, sighed as if exhaling the very thought.

“If true possession really occurred, as you say, nothing would happen when you stabbed the medium. Because although the body belongs to the medium, control over it lies with the spirit.”

Eustar chuckled.

“Exactly. That’s how possession works. ‘Overlay,’ however, isn’t possession in the strict sense. It’s more like peeking into the soul’s core memories. Depending on the method and whether the subject cooperates, it’s the difference between secretly reading a private diary or reading a public notice posted on a town wall.”

After pondering for a while, Laila spoke.

“So that explains how I was able to witness what happened to that boy, Vin. That was ‘overlay.’”

“Yes. Usually, it’s quite a shock the first time.”

Laila sat up slowly, still feeling dizzy.

“What happened afterward? To the Sync? And the ghost…?”

“Oh, I’ve taken care of that. The Sync has completely vanished.”

His words—“I’ve taken care of that”—strangely unsettled her. She remembered the ghostly boy being drawn into Eustar’s palm. It had stretched unnaturally, like something forcibly pulled, writhing in pain… screaming…

Suddenly, she recalled the incident in the forest. Back then, too, Eustar had eradicated those children’s ghosts without so much as blinking—and fed them… to something.

Eustar stood.

“Thanks to you, I resolved everything smoothly. Thank you, Laila.”

At that very instant, Laila glimpsed a faint, dark smoke drifting behind his shoulder—exactly like the one she’d seen before. But when she blinked and looked again, the smoke had vanished completely.

It must’ve been an illusion caused by the darkness, Laila thought. Perhaps his destruction of that orb was just some sort of trick… or an absurd magical artifact…

“Come on, Laila. Get up. I’ll take you home.”

Laila looked at the hand he extended toward her. At some point, he’d removed his gloves; his bare hand now bore a strange ring that caught her eye.

A sapphire cut into a heptagon—or perhaps another gemstone? Though slightly asymmetrical, it drew her in.

“That ring…”

At Laila’s words, Eustar lifted his right hand.

“You mean this?”

“What kind of ring is it?”

Just as Eustar was about to answer, Laila abruptly froze. Her crimson eyes glowed even brighter, burning vividly.

It was fire.

“Laila!”

Eustar shouted as Laila suddenly sprinted down the forest path. Her short hair, now falling past her shoulders, whipped wildly about.

Her house was on fire.

Like a nightmare, thick black smoke billowed as crimson tongues licked hungrily at the ominous night over Rijicus, as though ready to devour it whole.

Laila ran without caring that branches scratched her cheek. She stopped only when the sound of collapsing pillars reached her ears.

“There she is!”

One of the villagers encircling her burning house glared at Laila and shouted.

Only then did Laila realize the entire village of Rijicus had gathered here specifically to burn down her home. She saw them gripping sickles, scythes, and plowshares sharpened to lethal points…

They came here to kill me, Laila thought.

The soot-streaked faces of the villagers were bathed in flickering red light—faces as red as blood. A fragment of her mother’s words flashed through her mind: “Laila, demons…”

—Demons have faces like fire.

“You witch! Give me back my child!”

“Burn her alive!”

Stones flew through the air. Though none struck Laila, the villagers’ fury was unmistakable.

They looked ready to toss her straight into the flames at any moment—and when she screamed in agony, they’d dance to it as if it were music…

“What madness is this!”

The moment Eustar shouted, the villagers’ hostile stares shifted as one toward him. Some still raised their sickles threateningly toward Laila, while others hesitated slightly.

“That witch killed our children!”

A red-faced man thrust his scythe forward as if to impale Laila. Eustar stepped smoothly in front of her, blocking the threat with a gentle smile.

“That’s a misunderstanding. Laila didn’t kill your children.”

“Shut your lying mouth! If not that witch, then who did it? You’re one of her kind too—a demon consorting with that witch!”

Hearing the vile insults, Laila tried to step forward—but Eustar gently restrained her with a subtle motion too soft for others to notice.

“Sorry to disappoint you, but I’m no demon—just an ordinary human.”

“Shut your nonsense!”

The man grabbed a stone the size of his fist. But before he could hurl it, thick, coarse vines suddenly erupted from the ground at his feet.

“What—what is this? Aaah!”

His hand, wrapped in vines, trembled violently, and the stone dropped with a thud. The villagers, now terrified, gripped their farming tools tighter and pointed accusingly at Laila.

“It’s the witch! She did this!”

“Burn her at once!”

Just then, Laila, standing behind Eustar, could no longer hold back her cry.

“It wasn’t me!”

Eustar spoke.

“She’s telling the truth. What just happened was my doing. It’s no demonic magic—just a magical tool commonly used for hunting monsters, nothing to fear.”

The villagers of quiet, remote Rijicus knew little of monsters or magical artifacts. Though they had a vague idea of such things, they never imagined they truly existed.

While the villagers hesitated, Laila’s house burned relentlessly.

The rafters collapsed; the roof had vanished entirely. Laila suddenly remembered her mother’s chair—the one so old it creaked with every sit.

“My mother gave birth to me there,” she’d once said. “And died there too.” The chair was surely ashes now—along with the worn bed, the centuries-old cradle, dried herbs, and the few books…

Eustar spoke again.

“The deaths of your children—your own children—were not Laila’s fault. They were caused by the ghost of Sync. You yourselves created that ghost. You all know who the dead child, Vin, truly was.”

A murmur rippled through the crowd. Some screamed; others staggered as if about to faint. Tommy’s father, gripping a sharpened sickle, bellowed through tears.

“What insane nonsense are you spouting! If you so desperately wish to die, then join that witch and burn together!”

He stomped forward furiously. Each swing of his arm sliced the air with the sickle’s edge; his filthy leather boots crushed the dry earth beneath him.

I can’t take this anymore, Laila thought. I just can’t…

The pain she thought had vanished bit sharply into some hidden part of her body—a sting like a serpent’s fang—and Laila screamed.

“Your son killed Vin!”

The man, poised to swing his sickle at Eustar, froze like stone. Several villagers gasped. The fire that had reduced Laila’s home to ash now leapt hungrily toward new fuel—trees, grass…

Through gritted teeth and wide eyes, the man stammered,

“Wha—what blasphemy is this filthy witch spewing? What about my son? How dare you slander him!”

Laila lifted her crimson eyes and glared directly at him.

“You know better than anyone it’s no slander. When Vin’s body was found, Tommy told you everything! To hide it, you dumped both bodies like rotten meat! And you—all of you—knew the truth yet kept silent! While those children were torn open by wild beasts, you refused to accept your own children had murdered someone!”

The villagers’ furious faces turned deathly pale. Whether they’d known the truth or not, the spreading shame among them made Laila feel sick to her stomach.

Craaack—a sound rang out. The last standing wall had collapsed. Flames flickered over Laila’s face. From her wide, blazing eyes, curses seemed ready to pour forth.

“Get out of here now. Every last one of you. If you don’t, I’ll throw you all into those flames myself. I am a witch—and I have the power to do exactly that.”

Someone took a step backward. Like a signal flare, that single motion sent the crowd screaming and scattering in all directions.

Even Tommy’s father, who’d brandished his sickle so boldly, fled the forest faster than anyone. Soon, only the charred remains of the house and the crackling flames remained before the two of them.

Laila stared emptily at the ashes of her home. She hadn’t loved it—but it had been her entire world, the only place that had ever belonged to her since the moment of her birth.

“Come with me, Laila.”

At Eustar’s words, Laila let out a hollow, bitter laugh.

“Where? I can’t live properly anywhere. You know that—because of this hair and these eyes.”

“I told you before. Your eyes are beautiful—and special. I need them. Help me.”

He extended his right hand. Instantly, Laila felt that strange sense of déjà vu again. An urge to obey him, a firm refusal to reject him—both pierced through her like a protruding nail.

Without answering, Laila carefully took the hand he offered.

His warm touch held her firmly in place.

Regret With All Your Might (Completed Main Story)

27/12/2025
Side Story 5 Side Story 4

When yandere male lead believes she loves him — but she never did

“How dare you!”

“How dare you make me love you, only to cast me aside as nothing more than a friend?!?

“I will never accept that.”

“I will never let you return to him.”

“Even if I have to burn myself to ashes.”

“Even if I must shatter my purity, my dignity, my very soul.”

“I will never let you escape me!”

This was the first novel that introduced me to the matriarchal genre. I’ve read it three times already!

At first, the male lead despised the female lead. Later, he misunderstood that she liked him, so he condescendingly and reluctantly reciprocated her feelings.

Then, he suddenly discovered that she was kind to everyone in the same way, and there was already someone she cherished in her heart, and that person was not him.

The male lead couldn’t believe it, he became angry and crazy. He was determined to capture her body and heart by any means necessary.

Synopsis:

Want to see how a green tea bitch male lead falls in love with the female lead?

Want to see how he flirtatiously pursues the female lead?

Want to see how he gets slapped in the face repeatedly?

The male lead is a green tea bitch, a poisonous lotus, jealous, ruthless, unscrupulous, with a venomous heart, and he’s also a delusional maniac.

The female lead is righteous, positive energy-filled, kind, a holy mother.

Let’s see how two people with extreme personalities come together~

You’re bound to regret it if you skip this novel. Read the review & spoiler to find out what you might be missing!
