At Laila’s words, Eustar’s eyes widened slightly. He seemed surprised, but just before Laila could ask why, he moved his entire face into a smile.

He occasionally smiled like that—broadly and openly—and every time Laila saw Eustar smile that way, she felt as if the weather had suddenly cleared up brilliantly.

Unable to take her eyes off his smiling face, she finally asked,

“Why are you laughing?”

Eustar replied as if he couldn’t believe she didn’t already know.

“What do you mean, ‘why’?”

Both the corners of his eyes and his lips curved into soft, gentle lines.

“Because you said you came here to see me, Laila—I’m excited, that’s all.”

Laila remained silent, simply gazing at him. Lost in thought, she focused on the soft, ticklish sensation evoked by the word “excited.” It was an utterly unfamiliar word to her—and an unfamiliar feeling.

“Shall we go?”

He extended his hand, and Laila took it quite naturally. Through her thin gloves, she could feel his fingers interlacing with hers.

“But, Eustar—where are we going?”

Eustar’s affectionate gaze lingered on Laila for a moment.

“Isn’t there anywhere you’d like to go?”

“If I said there was somewhere I wanted to go, would you take me there?”
