Deceptor’s wings flapped threateningly. Ash, dust, and sand swirled thickly in the air, stinging Laila’s eyes—but she stood her ground, tears streaming down her face.

Eustar’s sword was far too heavy. It was impossible to hold it aloft for long. Though she knew she couldn’t truly kill Deceptor, she had to act quickly to threaten him.

Laila let out a sharp shout and activated her Runner while pulling the sword back over her shoulder. Her body, already teetering backward from the weight, gained uncontrollable momentum as speed surged through her.

Focusing all her willpower solely on not letting go of the sword, Laila twisted her shoulder with all her might the moment Deceptor’s massive torso drew near.

—Ugh…!

That’s it, Laila thought. She wanted to stop the Runner, but all she could manage was changing direction due to the sword’s weight. The downward-pointing blade scraped the ground with a grating screech.
