The moment the door opened, a girl rushed out and threw herself into my arms.

Yune, with her white bobbed hair, had deeper-colored eyes and plumper lips. She looked almost entirely grown out of her childishness.

“Hello, Yune. Have you been well?”

“I missed you! No matter how many letters I sent, your replies were always so slow—do you have any idea how frustrating that was?”

“I’m sorry. Even when I wrote back right away, the school collected the letters late.”

Even though she understood my situation, Yune kept her pouty expression.

“Oh, isn’t that Lise?”

Just then, Madame Fenton and the Duke stepped out of the room and saw me.

“How have you been, Your Grace, Madame?”

“It really is Lise! Come in quickly.”

“Thank you, Your Grace.”

“Dear, Lise has grown even prettier since her last visit—and she seems a bit taller too.”

“I have grown a little, Madame.”

The Duke and Madame each gave me a warm hug and patted my back. In their comforting embrace, I finally felt as if I’d returned home.
