“Come down and eat.”

The boy spoke casually, using informal speech.

“Go ahead, just sit there.”

And there was an oddly absent sense of distance between them.

Sion stood in the kitchen doorway, silently staring at the boy—Yuvia—who had even pulled out a chair at the table for him.

Yuvia, in turn, began to stare blankly back at Sion. Unafraid and unflinching, she blinked calmly as if to ask, “Is there a problem?”

After a long while of this, it was Sion who finally felt a strange sense of defeat.

“What are you doing right now?”

“Running an errand for Deis. I was told to prepare a meal whenever the tenant arrives.”

When Sion opened his mouth, feeling inexplicably like he was losing, Yuvia replied with perfect nonchalance.

About a month ago, Ivy had abruptly bought Sion’s peaceful home. The previous landlady, Madame Marceau, had left without even looking back, her face filled with regret.

She was supposedly moving to a city where her relatives lived, and though she genuinely seemed sorry to go, she’d hurried off quickly. Parting with beloved neighbors was sad, but after years of anxiety caused by the curse, she was thoroughly fed up.

Thus, Sion had braced himself for an even more austere life. Madame Marceau had accepted a modest payment and taken care of meals and laundry for her tenant, but he couldn’t expect the same from the new owner.

Yet, surprisingly, the new owner had willingly taken over the previous landlady’s duties.

Although she clearly had little intention of doing it properly—her actions instead radiated a strong sense of mischief.
