Tiendavis - For Perfect Salvation (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 7
The sanctuary, which had been cheerful and lively, fell silent at Ivy’s entrance.
The six purifiers already present merely stared coldly at the newcomer.
Though it was an overt act of exclusion, Ivy paid it no mind and stepped into the sanctuary.
Then Rio Tuha, a purifier with luscious brown hair, broke the silence and approached Ivy.
“You’re late, Miss Ariate. Surely you didn’t come this late on purpose?”
Rio asked in a domineering tone.
But instead of replying, Ivy simply smiled awkwardly.
Frustrated by this lukewarm response, Rio pressed further.
“Don’t you think you owe an explanation? Do you even realize how much your conduct has degraded the Tower’s dignity?”
“…I’m sorry for being late, Miss Tuha. I don’t have time right now—let’s continue this conversation later.”
Despite Rio’s sharp interrogation, Ivy’s expression remained gently smiling.
Leaving those words behind, Ivy hurried to her seat, and Rio had no choice but to return to hers.
Yet still seething, Rio glared at Ivy’s back from her own seat for a long while.
At that moment, Ivy Ariate—the unfortunate girl cursed to answer every question with the truth—secretly wore a satisfied smile.
In truth, Ivy had barely understood what Rio had just said, because perfectly fitted earplugs blocked her ears.
Yesterday, when Deis asked about her plan for the purification ceremony, Ivy confidently told him not to worry.
Then she showed her puzzled steward something she had diligently carved over several days.
“What’s this?”
“It’s made of cork, and it’s an earplug.”
“Just how cunning are you…?”
Though tinged with subtle disdain, Ivy proudly preened at Deis’s exclamation.
During the days Deis was away, Ivy had thought hard about how to survive in perilous Tienda while bearing this curse.
Since the curse only activated when she was asked a question, as long as no one questioned her, there would be no problem.
But through her meeting with Sion Laurel, she realized it was impossible to predict and block every possible question.
So Ivy came up with a simpler solution.
She would simply not listen at all—instead, she’d roughly guess what others were saying from their expressions or lip movements.
Someone might sneer that it was a shallow trick, but so what?
Ivy had never denied it—the very cunning that saved her in every crisis.
‘I’ll just quickly finish the purification ceremony and run away.’
As if in response to Ivy’s resolve, the noon bell rang out.
At the sound, the purifiers formed their ranks.
And at the very front stood Ivy.
She could feel her companions’ gazes piercing her back, but she welcomed them gladly.
Their jealousy and caution were proof that Ivy Ariate remained the strongest candidate for High Priestess.

Tienda bears the nickname “God’s Basin.”
This is because a vast lake occupies most of Tienda’s area, making it truly resemble a basin when viewed from above.
Moreover, this lake was the sole water source for Tiendavis.
Thus, all life in Tiendavis depended entirely on this lake, and the name “God’s Basin” was a title filled with reverence and gratitude.
“It seems it’s about to begin. I’m looking forward to it again today.”
On the terrace of Manyanya Tower, where the lake was clearly visible, a man dressed in lavish attire spoke.
His name was Cassel Montra—the head of the noble House of Montra.
Beside him sat an elderly woman in formal uniform—the Duke of Bayen—who haughtily nodded.
“Compared to past purification ceremonies, the recent ones are certainly more worth watching. Ah, I suppose this is your first time seeing one, Count.”
As he said this, Duke Bayen turned to look at the blond youth seated beside him.
It was Sion Laurel, who had come to the ceremony alongside Duke Laurel.
Though the old duke had unusually spoken in a friendly manner, Sion Laurel didn’t even pretend to listen.
Annoyed by such arrogance, a frown creased Duke Bayen’s brow.
Trending
Duke Bayen, seventy this year, was himself a grand noble and had once commanded tens of thousands as a general before retiring.
For someone of his standing to initiate conversation, yet that blond Laurel had been ignoring everyone since earlier, acting like a solitary monarch.
Furious at the sight, Duke Bayen twisted his face and lamented,
“So Ivy Ariate wasn’t entirely wrong after all!”
But Sion still didn’t spare Duke Bayen even a glance.
Instead, Duke Laurel seated beside him sharply interjected,
“What do you mean by that?”
Seeing the young duke’s stern expression, the elder noble sneered again.
“I happened to hear. At the last banquet, Ivy Ariate scolded the Count, didn’t she?”
“Who dares to reprimand a Laurel?”
Duke Laurel rebuked Duke Bayen in a severe tone, causing the old duke’s jaw to tighten.
Just as the duke was about to speak again in open displeasure, Marquis Montra, who had been watching, smoothly cut in with a smile.
“Oh dear, please compose yourselves—there are many watching.”
The marquis gestured toward other terraces built along the tower’s outer wall.
There too, Tiendan nobles had gathered in full, and among them were some who secretly peeked toward this VIP box where the grand nobles sat.
At Marquis Montra’s mediation, Duke Laurel and Duke Bayen reluctantly turned away.
Meanwhile, Sion remained aloof, silently swallowing his disillusionment.
Laurel, Bayen, Montra—all hailed as noble grand nobles, yet in truth their tempers were no different from cheap tavern ruffians.
Just sitting with them made Sion’s stomach churn.
Yet the sole reason he remained in this stifling place was one and only.
Ivy Ariate—his long-standing debt.
“Ah, it finally seems to be starting.”
At that moment, the ever-resourceful Marquis Montra pointed toward the lake to ease the tension.
True to his words, the purifiers were emerging onto the platform one level below the terrace.
The platform where the purification ceremony took place hung directly over the lake, so the lake’s waves splashed gently onto it—which was why all the purifiers were barefoot.
“There she is—our Ivy.”
Marquis Montra spotted Ivy among the purifiers and grinned. Then, feigning friendliness, he spoke to Sion.
“You can only see Ivy Ariate’s true worth during the purification ceremony. Watching it might just soften your heart, my lord Count.”
It was obvious he’d spoken vaguely on purpose to draw attention, but Sion refused to play along and remained silent.
Once the purifiers took their places on the platform, boys holding goblets appeared around them. They scooped lake water into their goblets, placed them into baskets hanging from each terrace, and pulled the ropes.
Like buckets from a well, the baskets rose, delivering goblets filled with lake water to the nobles seated on the terraces.
A goblet also arrived at the grand nobles’ seats, and Marquis Montra took it out and handed it to Duke Laurel.
Still in a foul mood, the duke reluctantly dipped a fingertip into the cloudy water in the goblet and tasted it.
Duke Bayen and Marquis Montra followed suit.
“It’s salty.”
“Hmm.”
After tasting the lake water, Dukes Bayen and Montra lightly frowned.
As the marquis had said, the water was both salty and bitter—because it was seawater drawn from the ocean.
“If we let this flow through as is, there’d be chaos in Vis.”
“Quite a few people—and animals—would die.”
“It used to happen often. The fields of Vis completely dried up because they failed to properly purify that saltwater.”
Marquis Montra chuckled lightly and rested his chin on the railing. Then, glancing at Ivy, he murmured quietly,
“Compared to that, things are far too peaceful these days—thanks to our dear Ivy.”
Just as Sion narrowed his brows at the marquis’s frivolity,
a soft, gentle singing drifted up from below like a breeze—the purifiers had begun singing Manyanya.
As the purification ceremony commenced, the nobles ceased their chatter and listened to the girls’ voices.
Yet their song had no lyrics.
Because it was an imitation of Manyanya’s weeping.
Manyanya was the name of the dragon slumbering at the bottom of that lake.
Tiendavis, situated higher than rain clouds, rarely received rainfall. Moreover, suspended in midair as it was, water evaporated quickly—left alone, the land couldn’t last even half a year without turning to drought.

Tiendavis bore this flaw as punishment for straying from divine order.
For this imperfect world, the gods created Manyanya in the image of a clear morning.
Manyanya, ruler of dawn, the purifying dragon who washes away all impurity.
With the power granted by the gods, this beautiful dragon transformed murky seawater into pure freshwater and sent it flowing to the land to quench its thirst.
Thus, benevolent Manyanya ruled over Tiendavis—but like the blessings of other dragons, his purification too ceased three hundred years ago.
For in the war against the rebellious dragon Noche, Manyanya exhausted all his strength and sank into a deep slumber.
Fortunately, just before falling asleep, Manyanya promised to lend his power to pitiful humankind.
But there was one condition.
They must sing with a voice matching his, resonating with the deeply slumbering Manyanya.
Those who borrowed the dragon’s purifying grace through song were precisely the purifiers of Manyanya Tower.
The purifiers’ clear voices spread over the calm lake.
And Sion thought their song rather monotonous.
‘Is this all?’
They’d said he’d witness Ivy Ariate’s true worth, yet this scene before him differed little from the purification ceremonies he’d seen as a boy.
Elegantly adorned young ladies merely singing—it wasn’t bad as a spectacle, but that was all.
So Sion glanced at Ivy with suspicion—and unexpectedly discovered something.
Ivy, standing facing the lake, still kept her mouth closed.
Unlike the other purifiers who had already begun singing, she simply gazed at the lake without singing.
As if searching for something—or yearning for it.
After a long while, just as the singing purifiers paused to catch their breath, Ivy Ariate finally opened her mouth.
At once, a voice astonishingly clear pierced through the others’ song.
In that moment, Sion unconsciously held his breath.
A deep, pure tone—unbelievably human—overwhelmed him.
And it wasn’t only Sion who was captivated.
Other nobles, who had already witnessed Ivy’s purification several times, were utterly entranced, their souls lost.
Even Duke Laurel, who disliked Ivy, gripped his chair’s armrest tightly, struggling to contain his trembling.
With just a single phrase, Ivy ensnared the nobles and poured her song toward the calm yet murky lake.
As Ivy sang, the other purifiers added their voices in harmony with hers—but Ivy’s voice did not fade; instead, it grew even more distinct.
The purifiers’ song existed for Ivy, and Ivy gathered their sound to craft her own melody.
At the sorrowful voice imitating Manyanya’s weeping, the lake’s surface began to tremble.
Sensing the movement, Ivy raised her voice.
As her tone crossed the air, the lake surged in great waves.
And with it, Ivy Ariate’s black hair shimmered into a dazzling, watery hue.
