Tiendavis - For Perfect Salvation (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 199
“I didn’t stir up trouble out of malice, and besides, I’m far better off admitting my mistake than the new Montra who knows nothing at all.”
Cassel truly believed this, so his following assertion was utterly confident.
“Therefore, I must live. I might accept proper punishment, but I cannot be eliminated like this.”
When Cassel finished his lengthy speech, Miel’s eyes widened just as they had before.
At first glance, she looked innocent. But Cassel refused to be fooled again and readied himself for an attack.
“The Marquis is truly generous toward himself. Claiming you deserve ‘proper punishment’ already reeks of privilege, yet you seem utterly unaware—how incredibly arrogant. It’s astonishing how you can be so bold while spouting a bit of hypocrisy. I’d love to make you repeat those words in front of all the people you’ve ruined and count how many stones they throw. They’d probably all aim for your head.”
Sure enough, what flowed from Miel’s lips was deceptively innocent venom. And despite his preparations, Cassel was wounded all the same.
Seeing Cassel sink back into gloom after being struck hard once more, Miel muttered as if to herself,
“Still, just now, you were a bit like King Montra.”
There was no trace of mockery on Miel’s face as she said this.
Something must have left a deep impression, for Miel rested her elbow on the windowsill, propped her chin in her hand, and murmured in a softened tone,
“I don’t believe in bloodlines or anything like that, but now I’m a little intrigued. Could this be atavism? King Montra was idealistic like a fool—not just in words, but he actually made decisions that cost him dearly. That’s why I liked Montra, at least.”
Miel’s tone was calm, as if tracing distant memories, and she even referred to herself as “I.”
Cassel sensed something odd about this, but instead of showing surprise, he silently averted his gaze.
“That’s why he lost so much. It’s always like that—kindness toward humans never works. Spoil them, and they grow arrogant; only when you reduce them to ruins do they finally come to their senses. Humans call that process ‘historical progress,’ but having to watch it all from the sidelines made me truly despise you all.”
