“Of course, while we’re in this region, we must conceal our identities.”

Deis said this as he skillfully carved Ivy’s steak with his knife.

“If word gets out that we’re here, it’ll raise unnecessary suspicion. At worst, your current condition might be exposed. So not only must we hide our status, but we must also be careful not to get entangled in pointless trouble. Vis’s public order isn’t as orderly as Tienda’s, after all.”

The place where Deis was delivering this lecture was a small town in southeastern Vis—the most refined restaurant the town had to offer.

Ivy, seated by the second-floor window of the establishment, had been watching her butler’s deft knife work when she snorted at his excessive caution.

To lecture me—a native of Vis’s streets—about Vis’s law and order?

It was as if he were asking what she thought he took her for, to speak to her so condescendingly.

Just as Ivy opened her mouth with an expression of utter disbelief—

a loud crash suddenly rang out from outside the window.

Turning toward the sound, she saw a man, thoroughly drunk even in broad daylight, causing a ruckus in the street.

Street stalls overturned, scattering vegetables everywhere, and angry shouts filled the air.

Because of this, Ivy was freshly reminded that she was indeed in Vis.

Narrow alleys, shabby stalls, boisterous clamor—and now a drunken troublemaker on top of it all. It was a scene unimaginable in Tienda.

Ivy found this quintessentially Vis-like situation oddly refreshing and even welcome.

So she watched for a moment—until the man who’d overturned the stall suddenly barked at her.
