Sion spoke with difficulty, then doubted whether he’d really said it properly.

He could feel Ivy, still held within his arms, take a deep breath.

It sounded like she was swallowing her anger, yet also like something was welling up inside her.

At that faint breath, Sion grew afraid again.

It seemed Ivy might recoil in disgust, just as she had that morning, and then run away somewhere once more.

So, without even realizing it, Sion pleaded.

“I won’t do what you hate. I’ll never do it again, so please…”

So please give me another chance. Don’t hate me. Stay by my side.

The raw words only swirled inside his mouth.

He was proud and arrogant enough to still possess a sense of shame—he didn’t know how to grovel flat on the ground. Aware of his dignity, he still held back what could and couldn’t be said.
