With an urgent touch, Cassel’s body was pushed aside.
Almost torn apart, Cassel raised his head with fierce eyes, and Evie, too, was surprised to look at the person who had intervened between herself and Cassel.
Then, seeing the guard’s uniform, she was surprised again.
The woman in uniform was a hawkeyed woman with a sharp impression.
She was about as tall as Cassel, her body straight and muscular with a military bearing. That’s why her tiedup dark hair also looked aggressive like a raised flag.
Though she had not formally greeted her yet, Evie knew who this person was.
She had to know. It was always the person by Count Zion Laurel’s side.
“What’s this?”
Cassel laughed, looking at the hand on his shoulder.
Then Moren drew a breath and removed her hand from Cassel’s shoulder.
“Is this a command from the Count?”
“No. It’s just that my younger brother’s escort seems too deficient. It’s discipline on a family level.”
As Cassel asked, dusting off his crumpled clothes, Moren replied with a smiling face.
In fact, moments ago, Moren had nearly been killed by the glare of the commanderinchief.
Because, while assisting the supervisor, she had blocked the Count Montara and ended up pushing that scoundrel onto Evie.
Therefore, Moren, who had set out to make amends, glared affectionately at her younger brother, standing next to Evie.
Her stupid brother, Young Master Arko, was standing dumbfounded, even though his partner was being ridiculed.
Her heart was aflame at that sight, but Moren did her best to wear a gracious expression.
“Ladies must be treated with utmost care. You should meticulously examine whether there is any discomfort and treat her with consideration. Even the scent of a back flower can be dizzying if smelled for too long, so why don’t you rest a bit on that walkway over there.”
Moren spoke as if reading a book and placed Evie’s hand back on her brother’s skinny arm. Then, she slapped her brother’s back with her palm, urging him to run away quickly.
Young Master Arko, who was more afraid of his big sister than his father, nodded and turned his body without understanding.
But before he could take a single step, he was caught again.
“No, wait a minute.”
Cassel grabbed Evie’s arm with a smile, so Evie ended up stretched between Cassel and Young Master Arko.
“I’m still talking here.”
Cassel spoke gently, and Evie frowned, because of the contrasting force of his grip.
Cassel clenched Evie’s arm nervously while pretending to smile gently.
So Evie endured the pain and shouted inwardly.
‘What’s wrong with this guy?’
Apparently, Cassel was angry. Even before approaching Evie, he had been.
Cassel Montara, who acted like a gentleman when he was in a good mood, but growled like a dog when displeased, was doing something utterly doglike by pulling a young lady around and sniffing her neck.
That was why Evie anticipated Cassel’s discomfort from the beginning, but this situation itself did not make sense.
Cassel Montara was a person clear about strengths and weaknesses. He would never have dared to treat Evie like this normally.
Because Count Laurel was watching from over there.
Even among the aristocrats, there is a big difference between Laurel and Montara.
Therefore, Montara would not dare to intrude when Count Laurel was watching, and Evie wondered why this man was behaving so brashly.
Then, seeing Cassel smiling harshly at Moren, she sensed something.
‘Did that woman offend the Count?’
Evie looked back and forth between Cassel and Moren in disbelief.
And that suspicion, regrettably, was accurate.
Cassel was very annoyed by Moren Arko, and he was playing a prank on Evie to pick on Moren.
Cassel Montara, who prioritizes showing off more than the desire to survive, thought that he would naturally be the center of attention at the Backflower Festival.
But as soon as he arrived at the Backflower Garden of the Touha family, the atmosphere was strange.
Count Laurel, who wouldn’t show his face in such a place, had already taken control, and the nobles were preoccupied with his gaze and mood.
It was a dull affair for Cassel.
But what could be done? Count Laurel had no choice but to bow down graciously.
Cassel was already half irritated by then. Just then, he happened to run into Moren.
Cassel greeted the Count first, but the Count did not even pretend to hear him.
Even so, Cassel understood. The Count was always like that.
But a conceited bitch from a proud military family had rudely interfered, ruining his mood.
He was furious beyond endurance, from her insolently blocking his view, trying to drive him away like an obstacle, and prattling about some sick hobby.
Cassel knew about Moren standing up to Evie’s punishment at the tower lord’s place and then backing off.
Thinking that he would kneel down to the tower lord but stand up to me to the end made the anger swell within him.
And when Cassel Mont was angry, he had to pay it back.
“I have quite a bit to talk about with Evie. Lord Arco, will you lend me your partner for a moment?”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
