Count Philip Morris was curious about the curse.

That single comment had thrown a wet blanket on the otherwise smoothly rolling atmosphere.

Zion’s expression immediately froze, and Evie’s heart pounded more than when their eyes had met earlier.

And at that fleeting moment, Evie’s butler made an independent judgment.

Just as Evie gasped in surprise, DS rushed into the tent and scooped her up, then began to escape at an unbelievable speed.

His movement was so fast that even Zion couldn’t respond, and thus Evie realized that she was in DS’s arms only after they had left the tent.

“DS, wait a moment…!”

Evie shouted to stop the butler.

But before she could finish speaking, a chilling sensation ran through her whole body.

The instant after they sensed the danger, lightning struck around them, accompanied by a loud boom.

“Kyaa!”

Evie screamed in shock at the explosion and flash, and DS, holding her with one arm, scraped the ground to a halt.

Lightning continued to strike around Evie and DS.

So DS gripped Evie’s shoulder even tighter and held his breath.

The investigative team inside the tent was sprawled out in their places, without signs of fighting or resistance.

It seemed like a strange clue, and this was it.

It was the lightning that Zion Laurel had used to make dragons fall and to instantly subdue soldiers.

DS found an escape route through the eerie flashing thunderbolts.

But an opening to escape was nowhere to be seen, and in the meantime, the master of the lightning leisurely caught up with them.

“You don’t need to run away.”

With the monotonous voice, the flashing around Evie and DS subsided.

Still, the two could not be at ease.

“You can’t run away, either.”

It was because of the cold edge in the approaching Count’s voice.

As the Count approached, DS hid Evie behind him.

And that behavior quite surprised Zion.

Zion had not done anything yet.

Evie Ariate had panicked on her own, and her butler had interfered and escaped on his own.

It was ridiculous enough, but now the butler was guarding Evie Ariate like a puppy guarding its chick, and to Zion, it was just laughable and ludicrous.

“Let’s finish the conversation we were having. Don’t act scared inappropriately.”

Zion spoke deliberately, ignoring Evie’s butler and speaking to Evie over his shoulder.

Fortunately, Evie was wiser than her butler.

Eventually emerging from behind her butler, Evie faced Zion with a tense expression.

Despite DS’s quick judgment, they were still inside the investigative team’s barracks.

In that chaotic place where torches flickered red and soldiers were scattered everywhere, and where lightning had just struck, Zion asked:

“What do you know about me?”

“I know the Count is also cursed.”

“Why do you suspect that?”

“It’s not suspicion. I’ve already confirmed it.”

“How?”

“The butler has, with Amaneser’s eye.”

Zion narrowed his eyes at Evie’s response.

Amaneser’s eye? Why would a butler have such a thing?

Amaneser’s eye was a fragment of Amaneser embedded in a human eye to mimic the dragon’s insight.

The dragon’s body is more akin to minerals than human or animal flesh.

It does not age or rot, and even if it is broken, each part of its body retains unique abilities.

That’s why the tower master coveted Amaneser’s fragments so greedily.

Amaneser was the dragon of penetrating insight, and its fragments carried that insight.

So Amaneser’s fragments were mainly used for divination, and occasionally to create noble hunting dogs by embedding them in slaves’ eyes.

These hunting dogs with Amaneser’s eyes perform various errands with senses superior to real dogs.

Espionage, tracking, or even assassination.

But when Evie said her butler had one of those eyes, Zion began to find the butler genuinely annoying.

Moreover, the events of dinner earlier that evening came to Zion’s mind.
Evie and that butler showed interest in glasses, bringing their faces close.

A cold smirk crossed Zion’s lips as he recalled the incident.

That must have been when it happened. The insignificant insight that uncovered Zion’s curse.

He felt needlessly tingling at the time, and now, with a face that looked like it couldn’t kill a bug, it struck again from behind.

Zion’s eyes grew icy, and Evie sensed his change in atmosphere.

“So what else do you know?”

“I only know this much about the Count. The rest is conjecture.”

“What conjecture have you made?”

“I suspect that the House of Laurel is using a curse. Count, please wait a moment…!”

Evie, cornered and desperately revealing her thoughts, cried out.

As Diess was about to step forward again, a flash of lightning grazed his foot.

The thunder scratched the ground soundlessly, emitting smoke, and Zion coldly glared at Diess with a warning.

As if to say he wouldn’t let him intervene as before.

Zion’s eyes toward Diess were much more merciless than when he looked at Evie.

Thus, having subdued the hunting dog, Zion spoke again.

“Continue your story.”

Perhaps due to Evie’s plea to wait, his manner of speaking changed from a question to a suggestion.

Male lead is a Divorced Husband

She said to him: “Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change it!”

Liu Changning transmigrated into a female cannon fodder character in a female-dominant novel.

After reading the first half of the novel’s plot, the first thing she did upon transmigration was to divorce the Pan Jinlian-style male protagonist she had just married.

She indulged herself, pretending to be ugly and poor.

But as time passed, the way that man looked at her became more and more unusual…

Liu Changning was dumbfounded: Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change!

――

This lifetime, Pei Yuanshao was rejected by the same woman twice!

The first time, she drove him away. Forced by the situation, he endured the waves of anger in his heart, yielding and humbling himself.

That person lay slanted on a rocking chair, her sallow face emotionless: “If you don’t want a divorce, go cook!”

Pei Yuanshao’s face was dark and gloomy: “You!”

The second time, after the crisis in Jinling City was resolved, the new emperor sent someone to pick him up. He turned around, stammering: “I… I have to go. If you keep me…”

That person lay on the kang bed, her back to him, as if she had long anticipated this day, crisp and clear: “Goodbye!”

Pei Yuanshao was so angry his fingers trembled: “You… you!”

The mission of family and country made him restrain himself, averting his eyes and turning to leave this broken household.

Two years later, they met again. Seeing her ethereal face, his body shook like a sieve.

“She was originally a ‘she’!”

At the Qionglin Banquet, the top scholar of the imperial examination, a talented person with exceptional speech and conduct, all the unmarried young gentlemen from aristocratic families looked at her with shy and timid eyes.

The peerless imperial official Pei Yuanshao felt the anger in his heart erupt. He pointed at the woman surrounded by the crowd at the Qionglin Banquet, his thin lips slightly curled: “Little sister, I wants that person to be the wife-master of my Mingde Prince Manor.”
