The largest room, located at the center of the second floor of the Allen mansion. The man lying on the enormous bed—just as vast as the room itself—twitched his eyebrows.

Edward lifted his heavy eyelids.

He murmured hoarsely through his parched throat.

“Where… is this?”

It was the familiar ceiling. The wallpaper of the bedroom in the mansion he had always seen.

Out of habit, he tensed his muscles. But before he could even sit up, a sharp wave of pain forced him to grimace and lie back down again.

He wanted to get up, yet his body refused to move. His entire body felt languid and damp, as if struck by a severe fever.

Edward turned his head slightly to check his surroundings. But even that slight motion overwhelmed him, causing a dizzying sensation as though his brain were shaking.

It felt as if his head were filled to the brim with water. He immediately squeezed his eyes shut against the nausea.

“…What an utter mess.”

His physical state was truly dreadful. He had been living irregularly lately, but he never expected to fall this gravely ill.

Once the headache subsided slightly, he opened his eyes narrowly to survey the room. Judging by the brightness outside the window, it was already midday.

Edward slowly tried to recall his last memory. What came to mind immediately was Louisa—her gentle smile.

“At least this time, I had a dream that felt like a real dream.”

Afraid that his wife’s face—the last thing he remembered—would blur away, he quickly shut his eyes again.
