It wouldn’t be strange if those self-righteous parliamentarians had spouted some nonsense about her.

There had been such incidents before.

Rumors about a woman who repaid debts with her body, or a noblewoman shamelessly married to a commoner of unknown lineage.

Insinuations that she had grown up without proper family values.

Now with the backing of the Allen family, things had improved somewhat, but their nature hadn’t changed, so this session would have been no different.

And yet, she still insisted on attending, his wife did.

‘Now that I think about it, there’s something about Congresswoman Valeria.’

His fingers tapped rhythmically on the steering wheel.

Recently, he had feigned interest in a contract for Allen’s magic stone mechanisms with Valeria’s company, only to sign with a competing firm offering better terms at the last moment.
Hearing that Congresswoman Valeria, harboring resentment towards him, had been spreading rumors throughout the town claiming, “Edward Allen is just a thug who inherited his father’s nature of scamming,” Edward was deep in thought as he sat quietly with a serious expression for 30 minutes after arriving at work. Geoffrey, unable to bear it any longer, approached Edward and prodded him.

“Mr. President, why are you like this today?”

Startled by the sudden question, Edward retorted, “Why are you asking me that out of the blue?”

“Because you’re acting strange today.”

“I don’t see what’s strange about me.”

“There’s too much to explain individually, but I can tell you everything if you want,” Geoffrey said, raising one eyebrow nonchalantly.

In his youth, Edward would have smacked the back of Geoffrey’s head for such behavior, but now, he could only grumble internally and waved his hand dismissively, “Fine. And to make it clear, nothing is wrong.”

“Ah, of course, Mr. President.”

Geoffrey snorted and returned to his desk.

“Ah, I can’t even fire that guy,” Edward grumbled, ruffling his hair in frustration.

Geoffrey was a junior from the college he graduated from, and they hadn’t had much interaction during their school years. However, everything changed when Edward turned twenty-two, just before advancing to his final year in college, when his father, Benjamin Allen, disappeared.

Though it was termed as a disappearance, everyone knew the truth. The renowned engineer Benjamin Allen, realizing the failure of his research, fled with a huge investment. That was shocking enough, but what was more despicable was that he had asked the Abritts, who had trusted and supported him, for additional large investments before fleeing.

Benjamin took all that money and ran away.

The shock led Philip Abritt to collapse and soon after, he passed away, followed by Philip’s wife, Scarlett.

When Edward first heard the news, he felt like he was falling into an abyss. But when he saw the young girl, Louisa, who generously offered mercy in her more desperate situation, he was struck breathless by the overwhelming emotions.

A person so radiant and frail, someone he must atone to for his whole life.

Edward made a decision.

No matter what happens, I must give this person a happy life. That’s what I should live for.

It was a foolish first love.

[“That looks interesting. Would you like to join me?”]

And then, as he was completely immersed in his research, Geoffrey Curtis appeared.

At first, Edward refused. In a world where people even abandon their children, he had to carry out his most important research alone. But Geoffrey kept coming back.

“What’s your purpose?”

“Research, of course.”

“Crazy. Get lost.”

“No, let’s try to work well together.”

“I don’t trust people like you.”

“Trust? Seriously. You’re one to talk. If you’re going to talk about trust, at least don’t seek out an engineer with a con artist for a father!”

Harsh words.
But it was precisely for that reason that Edward was convinced.

Those intending to deceive usually sweeten their words, a truth derived from age-old wisdom and experiences with his own father.

Edward decided to collaborate with Geoffrey on the research.

After much struggle, they finally achieved success. Now, he believed he could finally make his wife happy.

‘But she wants to break up.’

His thoughts returned to the present, echoing with Louisa’s voice in his head.

Let’s break up. Break up. Break up…….

“……sir! Mr. President!”

A loud noise jolted Edward from his thoughts. It was Geoffrey.

“What is it? Why?”

“Have you checked the document I submitted for approval? Can we proceed with the changes as they are?”

“……I’ll check it now. Just wait a moment.”

He picked up the stack of documents in front of him.

Seeing him distraught, Geoffrey, unusually considerate, left to make coffee.

A few minutes later, Geoffrey returned and plunked down a mug on the desk without a coaster, saying,

“Three shots.”

“Three? Is this poison?”

“Triple the caffeine to help you focus.”

With that, Geoffrey just dropped his comment and returned to his seat.

That was right. There was work to be done right now.

Yet, despite knowing this, Edward couldn’t concentrate on his work all morning.

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day

It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.

The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.

Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.

If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.

It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.

The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.

In the end, everything will come together and be explained.

One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!

In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.

Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.

However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.

Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.

Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?

——

Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.

His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.

Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”

——

The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.

Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!

Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!

The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…

——

But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.

The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.

She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…

Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”

Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”

Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?

[Small Theater]

The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.

Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”

Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.

Zhu Wansheng: ?

Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…

On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.

Warm breath lingers on her neck.

“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
