At the end of repetition, the outcome was disconnection.

We couldn’t understand each other. Misunderstanding bred endless arguments, plunging our emotions into a pit.

I was the only one clinging to the memories of our old love. Now, I wasn’t even sure if what I had believed to be love was real.

The prolonged conflict made me doubt even the time that had passed.

Happiness vanished like a bubble with success, leaving only money and time given as if repaying a debt.

Perhaps accepting his proposal was just an inability to refuse out of guilt. Since the day he knelt before me, his life has been pledged to me.

The belief that had supported the past in Louisa’s heart shattered. Once doubt took root, it stripped away the strength to endure this situation.

I had held on, hoping love might return someday, but perhaps such hope never existed.

‘What am I, then?’

To Edward Allen, what was Louisa Aberitt?

The answer was obvious.

A burden weighing down life, a source of lifelong guilt. An object of resentment and anger.

I was just that to Edward. I had to accept it.

Tears welled up in Louisa’s eyes.

I acknowledge that holding on to you was just my selfishness.

I admit my selfishness blinded me and shattered my heart.

So, this is the right choice for us both.

She resolved.

We had to part ways.

Louisa covered her mouth with her hand, gasping for breath.

Edward, unable to respond appropriately, stared blankly at her.

“Hold on. What did you say?”

Staring at her with a dumbfounded expression, he barely managed to speak.

“Did I hear you right? You want to break up?”

The silence in the living room was broken only by the sound of rain hitting the windows.

Confronted with this unfamiliar side of her, Edward looked confused, furrowing his brow, then resting his hand over his eyes.

What is this all about? Why are you doing this to me?

He stood there for a long time.

After a dry face wash and a deep sigh, Edward picked up the water bottle from the table and poured a glass.

He drank it in one gulp, wiped his mouth, and said,

“What are you talking about all of a sudden?”

“It’s not sudden.”

“And then?”

Louisa, tears streaming, couldn’t even think to wipe them away.

“I’ve just realized it. That we should have done this a long time ago.”

Too late, she realized. She laughed bitterly.

Edward looked at her in shock. He wanted to scream.

You say we should have done this a long time ago. After everything I’ve done for you. You know the efforts I’ve made. And yet, to you, I’m forever just a sinner…

Struggling to speak through his choked throat, he forced out the words.

“Stop talking nonsense. Let’s… talk tomorrow. I’ll pretend I didn’t hear anything today, and you should go and rest.”

Edward decided to postpone the conversation. For now, he had to go. When the sun rose and they were both more rational, then…
“Alright then. Goodnight.”

Louisa bid him a nighttime farewell.

Click. The sound of the door closing reached Edward’s ears.

The empty living room.

Now, there was no reason for him to be here.

Yet, Edward remained in place for a long time. Just standing still, staring at the door his wife had exited through.

In the dim dawn.

Tossing and turning in the cold bed, Edward suddenly came to his senses, feeling a chill enveloping his body.

“What time is it?”

His eyes felt gritty, making it hard to open them properly.

Edward buried his face back into the pillow, reaching out blindly to search the nightstand beside the bed.

He remembered tossing something there the day before…

After a few unsuccessful attempts, his fingers encountered the distinct cold, solid feel of a metal object. He grasped the pocket watch and squinted to check the time.

The hands indicated 6 o’clock.

“Ah…”

He buried his face back into the pillow again.

Tired. I want to rest.

Uttering a groan of exhaustion, Edward forced himself out of bed.

Pulling the bell cord, he was soon attended by servants to help him get ready for the day.

Another busy day began.

Only without Louisa.

Mrs. Johnson noticed Edward’s gaze lingering on the spot where Louisa used to stand and said,

“The mistress said she’s a bit tired today and would sleep in a little longer. She didn’t seem unwell, so you needn’t worry.”

“Ah, okay.”

He turned his head nonchalantly.

As usual, the servants saw him off, and Edward sat in the damp, musty car, starting the engine.

It was a morning much like any other.

But the memories surfacing in his mind affirmed the difference between yesterday and today.

[“We… should break up.”]

He had thought waking up today would be better than yesterday, but it wasn’t.

‘Why?’

He still couldn’t get over last night’s events.

‘Should have done it long ago… realized it too late.’

His grip on the steering wheel tightened.

After all the care and effort I put into being by your side, did you really not understand that? Or was it just a spur-of-the-moment outburst from her? Perhaps she heard something about him at the parliament.

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.

In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.

When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.

She makes his life a living hell.

And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!

Intro

Dong Xia lost her memory.

Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”

Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.

…

The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.

She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.

Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.

No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

*

Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.

The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.

In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.

The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.

And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Notes:

1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.

2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
